This is rather confusing.... I can understand it to some point, but I'm sure it's be very confusing to someone who has no idea what this means (aka a newbie).
This is good reminder material for an adept artist though! Thanks!

This is very helpful! I wasn't aware of the importance of the third point! Odd how my art teacher never mentioned it either...

thank you so much for making this. I have a book in my bag right now on perspective and you pretty much summed up the first 3 chapters in a easy to read one pager. Great Job!

1 and 2 point perspectives were easy for me in school. They never taught 3 point perspective though. When I went to a book store to find 3 point. It looked terribly confusing. But this building view helps a lot of that confusion. Many thanks!!

best perspective tutorial online that i've seen, thank you sooo much! i am trying to draw a man on top of a sky scraper kinda hard, though. is there such thing as 4 point perspective?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Agakii In reply to thewyteangel [2008-08-09 18:24:28 +0000 UTC]
jep there is, but if you don't want to make it too hard you should stick to the 2 or 3-point
you can add as many vanishng points as you wish, giving each building or street it's own perspectives, but every point more than 3, makes the drawing exeedingly difficult, I haven't tried with more than 5 myself
and 5 is already damn hard
grtz and thankx for the comment

....Can this be used for characters? If so, if I am drawing a character as a giant or giantess, how would I know where to place the lines and position then to give different 'extreme character perspectives'?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Agakii In reply to The-Reploidst [2008-05-17 19:55:41 +0000 UTC]
of course it's possible
even a figure (giant or whatever) can always be reduced to rectangular spaces or cubes
you draw a cube or rectangular around your volume (the chest and legs for example) - these volumes then apply the same rule to perspective as buildings or objects
then you start to refine, making the forms more detailed still applying the same rules (vanishing points, horizon), and once you get your basic figure, you can start detailing it - clothes and muscelature and so on ...
mainly just picture the giant as the building

I really appreciate your careful delineation--both in the explanation (yay lists) and the illustrations. I can't tell you how many perspective tutorials I've seen with vague, non-helpful pictures where I had no idea how the auxiliary lines related to anything!
Thank you for clarifying the mysteries of perspective with this concise, well-done series!

omg it works like that O_o? No wonder it always looked akward when I tried something like that!
however, the second picture isn't that clear :S ... could you pleas (if you find the time somewhere...) draw the vieuwing point in that picture... and maybe some of those blue lines lines?
and thanks^^ this helps a lot!
