Description
A portrait of my friend Koki, a cockatiel , on an eucalyptus tree branch. He is 23 years old and still quite lively. I took a lot of liberties in rendering the background - in impressionistic style, but I kind of like it as it provides a contrast to a more controlled rendering of the bird.--------------
- Medium: oil on W&N Winton oil color paper (22.9 x 30.5 cm / 9 x 12 in)
Experimenting again with a new medium. I really liked painting in oils, but the turpentine-based solvent was horrific (in terms of health). I'll use odorless white spirit-based medium for the next project. Sadly the photo doesn't do justice to the original image. Perhaps I'll scan the painting once it's completely dry (in a few months).

How cute! ...I used to have this kind of little parrots, they're so lovely (:
Anyway, the painting is amazing, and the details on the wings and feathers is perfect!

Yep, that was the first time using oils. It was a stinky business, but I bought odorless solvents recently which, I hope, will fix that.
