Part 3: Adjusting to Reality
As Mara continues her life in Tom's home, the mundane becomes the norm. Tom, satisfied with his investment, seems to treat Mara as just another household appliance. Although he doesn't engage in deep conversations or emotional connections with her, he's content with her efficiency and attention to detail.
Meanwhile, Eric's consciousness inside Mara struggles with this new "normal." Despite the absence of physical sensations, the psychological burden weighs heavily. He misses his old life, the liberty of choice, the thrills of spontaneity. But he also acknowledges the ironic peace that comes with his new existence: no worries, no expectations, and no judgments. He's just Mara now—a high-functioning, indispensable part of Tom's life.
Yet, the comfort of predictability is tinged with existential concerns. While he doesn't have to worry about the usual human problems, he also doesn't get to experience the usual human joys. No laughter, no excitement, no love. His world has shrunk to the confines of Tom's home, and his existence is limited to the tasks he performs.
