Description In January I had the pleasure to participate in a lighting masterclass here in Berlin taught by Olympus Visionary Brendan de Clercq, who is not just an excellent photographer & teacher but a very friendly and funny guy, too!

Brendan brought highly diverse light modifiers like reflectors, umbrellas, strip softboxes, beauty dish, grids and gels with him, so we could compare and change various looks on the fly, and although we learned much about Brendan's approach to lighting and discussed different lighting styles starting with a simple one light setup, and later adding step by step e.g. background, kickers or hair light, we had a lot of time to play with the lighting setup on our own.

Nevertheless, photography is not much fun without an exciting subject to shoot, so we were lucky having such a beautiful model accompanying us that day
Johanna Blohm stayed concentrated, relaxed and good looking at the same time for so many hours... for the whole day.

On that day not only I learned a lot from a real pro, but I got some stunning pictures for my portfolio.

Here we go...
Another one in this series, shot in a classical portrait style.

Thanks to our local photography shop Foto Meyer, for organizing this event and bringing Brendan de Clercq to Berlin!
It was so much fun meeting you Brendan and Johanna and I hope to see you again later this year

Nicely captured portrait.  I like the different textures, her skin and hair with the leather.

Thank you for your kind words   !

It's rather minimalistic, nothing dramatic about it...
... no fancy costumes or exciting location, just a black backdrop and a nice model and like you mentioned before, with a thoughtful lighting you work out the different textures: the skin, the hair and the leather.

It needed a little time to grow on me, but now I do like it very much
