Description Again Nathaniel and Kitty. Mostly done with Wacom. It's so much easier to draw creases on their clothes and the crust of the trees with a tablet! Now I really should do a pic of Bartimaeus as Ptolemy...

Reason for edit in 2009: I absolutely HATED the way Nathaniel's face looked like, and their hair was also too dull (the original pic was done on my old, too dark monitor which tricked my eyes).
For comparison see old version here: [link]

Aww, lovely. Though I don't really support any pairings in Bartimaeus, NathanielXKitty is a good as any place to start ^_^

Haha thats so weird. My nickname is Kat or Kitty or Kitty Kat, and my boyfriends name is Nathan but people call him Nate and Nay.

Very very good colouring! I want a tablet so badly

Awwww, love it. Such a cute couple...though I don't like Natties (my cute little nickname for him) hair that long. Still, great details, and kudos to you.

This is awesome. The details of the folds in their clothes are amazing and you're so good at drawing expressions.

Thanks. Though I'm not perfectly satisfied with Nat's face here. Funnily, his face in the big version that I coloured in PhotoShop looks much better, but I always shrink my pics before I upload them on any site, and I was mad when the 'shrinking' screwed up Nat's face

Lovely. Nat/Kitty happiness! I love their expressions - it looks almost as if they're challenging each other. And thank heavens - Nathaniel's suit is not unreasonably tight!

Yeah, he got fed up with having no space for himself in his own suits Not to mention that unreasonbly tight trousers make people impotent (at least he thinks so, LOL).

Oh, so you're reading the series now? Great! In this pic Nat is around 20, and Kitty is 21. But of course this is an AU pic, as Nat never gets to be 20, the poor chap *Agi mutters to herself: "ignore book three, ignore book three..."*

Because Stroud is an evil jerk. No matter, I still ignore the fact he died. For me he lives, gets married and has a dozen children

I only have read the first book of the Bartholmius trilogy. seemed cool. based on your drawings I may read the resy (not so sure if i want to read the last one since you say bartolomius dies in the end, and I really don't like it when characters die in books, it gets me emotional

Anyway....
This is a great drawing, looks like the tipical case of opposite-attract.
Love the characters designs, their poses and the expression and the background.

It's not Barty who dies in the last book but Nathaniel. I must admit I wouldn't be this sad if Barty died. I like Barty, he's fun, but I LOVE Nat and his death made me cry. Glad you like the pic, and by all means, read at least the second book, it's cool.

You got a tablet? Great! Don't you find it so much easier to do little details? I got one a little while ago, it really helps Anyway, I love this picture! You paid such close attention to detail, especially on the clothes - I love Kitty's jeans! The only thing I can say is that her foot is a little..off looking, but feet are hard to do. Brilliant picture!

AgiVega In reply to werewolfhunter [2006-02-26 12:57:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's much easier to do little details with Wacom, while bigger things (like colouring the sky) is still easier with the mouse. So I'm using both tools simultaneously.

werewolfhunter In reply to AgiVega [2006-02-26 16:20:13 +0000 UTC]

I got a cheaper type of tablet, and it came with a mouse that you can use on it as well, which really helps.

AgiVega In reply to werewolfhunter [2006-02-26 16:46:16 +0000 UTC]

I didn't get a mouse with my Wacom, because my normal mouse works while I'm using the digital pen. But the digital pen also works as a mouse, so I can use both.

You and your Wacom. Grr. I tried to get one, but unfortunately the one I got was misadvertised and didn't actually have drivers for my computer. Looks awesome, Agi!

AgiVega In reply to elegantmisreader [2006-02-26 11:05:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Myr! How come yours didn't have drivers for your computer? Didn't they include a CD-Rom or what? That's weird...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elegantmisreader In reply to AgiVega [2006-02-26 15:29:25 +0000 UTC]

I got it off eBay because I can't afford a current one, so I had to download drivers from Wacom, and they didn't have any that were compatible with both my operating system and the tablet I got. One of my crazy computer friends is trying to *write* a driver for it, but I doubt that will happen soon enough to make any difference to me.

Dude, their poses and expressions just...work. Like, really well. And it looks like them! That's prett much how I picture Kitty and Nathaniel, though my mind never knows what to do with his hair.

Aren't tablets precious? What kind did you get?

AgiVega In reply to ChessaB [2006-02-26 11:08:34 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, glad you like it. My tablet is Wacom Graphire 4 XL, size A5. As for Nat's hair... yeah, it changes all the time in the books, but ever since I read book two, I decided to give him long hair in my pics, no matter that his hair is short in book three. Anyway, I completely ignore the fact that book three exists because I'm so mad at Stroud for doing what he did at its end.

I would be mad, except...corr, that was a good ending. I don't know how to say it...it's sad, but it's so...good. Plus, it puts a little gold star by his name in my book of good decisions that authors make, because it sort of cuts the rope so that another book would be out of the question (as I'm anti-sequel : ).

I just hope Rowling won't kill off Harry JUST BECAUSE she doesn't want to write any more HP books...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChessaB In reply to AgiVega [2006-02-26 21:05:42 +0000 UTC]

You misunderstand me...I don't mean that he killed him to end the series (heaven forbid: that would make his good ending into a literary disaster). I assume that good writers only write a small part of what they come up with. It's sort of like taking a photo and cropping it. A lot of the extra stuff isn't necessary to be in the final work, but it is necessary for reference. I'm guessing Stroud wrote/imagined the past, present and future (I'm almost positive of the unwritten stuff: he uses flashbacks a lot and those are hell to write if the whole past isn't figured out), and took the parts he thought would work for the story.

Rowling is a good writer. I don't think any good writer would do that. I sort of hope she doesn't write more..it would cheapen what she has.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AgiVega In reply to ChessaB [2006-02-26 21:22:22 +0000 UTC]

No, I didn't misunderstand you, I was sure he killed Nat because he had planned to do so before he even started to write Amulet of Samarkand, but we've heard so many stupid things about Rowling wanting to kill Harry just because she's got enough of her own series... I hope Harry survives BUT Rowling ends the series with book seven.

ChessaB In reply to AgiVega [2006-02-27 00:52:40 +0000 UTC]

I don't want Harry to die, either. But she's a good author. If Harry dies, it will be because that's what "had" to happen. Can't quite understand it myself, but somehow, when they write, those people become more real to them than to anybody...so much that eventually, they're just watching the characters behave in their mind's eye and writing down what they see...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AgiVega In reply to ChessaB [2006-02-27 08:34:40 +0000 UTC]

Well, no doubt that Harry WOULD sacrifice himself to kill Voldie, but I seriously hope he doesn't need to... I seriously don't like the Harry = Horcrux theory, even if it might be true.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChessaB In reply to AgiVega [2006-02-28 00:17:31 +0000 UTC]

I don't believe in the Harry=Horcrux theory myself, though I have to admit, the first time I heard about it I was like "WHOAmygosh, now THAT would be angst..."
But no...because okay...that would mean that Voldemort hadn't completed his horcruxes (horcri? I know this has been discussed somewhere..) before he went to Godric's Hollow. That's taking a chance that for some reason I doubt he'd take.
Plus, then it would have to have been an unintentional horcrux (and is that even possible? Highly doubtful...horcri are so advanced and obscure that even Dumbledore didn't know all of the specs), because he meant to *kill* Harry. I doubt he'd put his horcrux in a corpse (not that he has a problem with morbid, but somehow it's not his "style". His greatest fear is death, after all.), and he certainly wasn't counting on Harry surviving.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AgiVega In reply to ChessaB [2006-02-28 10:26:35 +0000 UTC]

I heard a theory according to which Voldie didn't want to kill Harry but he wanted to make a Horcrux of him, this way making sure that Harry would need to kill HIMSELF before he could do away with Voldie, and that would be pretty much impossible. This might have been Voldie's great idea for staying immortal: Harry can't kill himself and then kill Voldie, but if he doesn't kill himself first, he can't kill Voldie. Logical. And evil.
