I don't understand why people tend to hate hyenas so much.They are very social animals and one of the few mammalian species where the females are considerably larger than the males. And yes, while hyenas steal other carnivores' kills when possible, they are also excellent hunters, able to take down large herbivores with considerable ease. Some clans get up to 90 percent of their meals through hunting.
This painting is devoted to the African Savannah's most adaptive predator.

I guess another reason I like them is because they need love too, they do get such a bad rep, and when they do get a fanbase, they are swallowed by the waves of DA wolf crap. Don't get me wrong, I love wolves, seriously, nothing against wolves or anything, but they are taking over DA. I can't have one search result without having gobs of wolf related crap thrown in my face. And don't get me started on these idiots who insist on hyenas being canines... sorry about venting on your particular page :>

Yeah but I agree, too much bad wolf crap on dA. There's plenty of beautiful, well thought out and executed wolf art, but for every one of these you're bound to find ten "omg dis is lyk mah purpl magic wolf lol" scribbles. The worst thing is that those... things actually have fanbases.
I love wild wolves as much as I love hyenas, but I know I'll probably never make any wolf characters because of this madness.

I'm also am a hyena lover and think that they are the most amazing animals and the plains of Africa. As much as they steal they are indeed great hunters and even have a much higher success rate than lions.
