Description
lol, I've always been meaning to create one of these, so here we are! Also, I will share some insight to some of the choices...1 - God and all of creation. Usually I don't give much credit to the big guy upstairs, but when I think on what inspires me, His works stand above all else. Why? One only needs to look around them. From ants to birds, everything. When I look up at a beautiful sunset, when I watch a cascading waterfall. When I even look at a tree, never do I think this world was brought about simply by 'chance'. And then there's...
2 - Women. God created Eve and the rest is history. Beautiful, inspirational muse, but also hardly ever a stable one for reasons I won't divulge upon. No real surprises there anymore....
Admittedly, I was trying to find the perfect female form to represent the image for this, but I've almost given up on that, realising the quest probably impossible. x_x So Shae can play substitute for now. XD
3 - Morality, Chivalry, Honour, The Medieval Era and Edmund Blair Leighton. I figured I'd take the advantage to illustrate many things I love in a single image. Many virtues here.
Also, ol' Leighton sure knows how to paint modest, virtuous women. Gotta love elegant ladies.
4 - The Homeworld Universe. If there is one Sci-Fi series that has left a great impression with me, and while I was tempted to mention Macross, BSG, and even Gundam, the Homeworld series to me is something different. Its atmosphere, storytelling and artistic direction have always been a source of inspiration and has influenced my ship designs more than any other Sci-Fi related universe to date.
Reminds me that I really do need to draw more space faring vessel stuff sometime too...
5 - Traditional Asian Art. Very cultural. Very inspiring. And when Total War - Shogun 2 came along, one could say I loved the game purely for its attention to detail when it came to its art direction.
6 - Skies of Arcadia. lol, do I really need to explain this one? Great game in many regards, but an even greater influence for some of my original creations.
7 - The Fire Emblem series. True, I haven't played a FE game in years, but I always regard it as one of the few series out there where its character designs have a lasting impression on me because, well, they look awesome... bloody down to earth even, and don't make me want to gouge out my eyes like a certain popular series has almost managed from time to time. *cough*Final Fantasy*cough*
8 - Guild Wars. Why do I play Guild Wars? Kekai Kotaki's art style is one great reason for it, and then when Guild Wars 2 arrives...
9 - Jenny Dolfen. (aka =Gold-Seven ) Yes, I consider her my favourite artist here at DA. She has a gift that continues to draw me in, and her character designs as a whole have something many artists, including myself, ignore in favour of just settling for straightforward sexual appeal. There is a sense of morality in most of her works, and I hope that one day I can strive to attain that same quality.
She is also one of the nicest gals around and one of the few popular artists here at DA that actually takes the time to reply to me.
10 - The Kaldorei. (Night Elves) Despite my intense dislike for what the Warcraft universe has become, once upon a time I was a huge fan of the Kaldorei. I still am, in a way, if I mentally blank out everything the lore writers from Blizzard HQ have concocted since they brought 'The Burning Crusade' upon WoW. At any rate, the Kaldorei remain one of my favourite non-human races and yeah, they're still drawn by my hand from time to time. They are artistically exotic, and it's difficult not to love a race that is summed up with my weakness for athletic women and ancient lost civilisations...
11 - The Soul Blade/Calibur series. Been a fan of the series since the beginning, although I think SC5 will be my last return to the stage of history. Ever since SC4, the series has been underwhelming and hasn't lived up to its tradition in telling a great story as well as being a great game. I'm better off just blowing the dust off my PS2 and playing SC3 to remind myself what a Soul game should be.
That said, though, the series has always been a heavy influence with some of my original character designs and then some. Try asking where I got inspiration for the Shadowsbane Order from.
12 - Adele Lorienne S. (aka `Saimain ) Another great artist here at DA in the same boat as =Gold-Seven , who I should never forget. Beautiful soul, too.
13 - Rado Javor and Star Wars to a lesser extent. *Radojavor is inspirational. There's no other word I can use to explain better what the bloke's art is to me. Definitely one of my fav background artists.
14 - Cowboy Bebop. An anime always loved. Now that the Last Exile franchise has been fairly tarnished with its less than inspiring sequel series, it got bumped off the list in favour of CB, because... who the heck doesn't like CB? Its art direction is the textbook definition of classy, imo, and then when you throw in the likes of Yoko Kanno into the mix, we have what can be summed up in one word. Smooth.
XV - The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim. Fairly new to the list, but there's a lot about it that can be considered a basic muse for me. Its art direction is great, music inspiring, spectacularly atmospheric, immersive, and maker of many epic moments of gameplay that encourage original stories from me. It may even encourage some fanart eventually! (And yes, a drawing of Aela is in the cards...)
And for anyone interested in the image used for this meme... it's a home-taken screenshot with my character, Rafe. "Dovahkiin! No!!"
And so that's about it. Hope you found this meme at least mildly interesting. It's possible I may update it in time, too.

lol, no worries. The FE series has always had a sane mentality when it comes to character designs. FF on the other hand...

Yes. It's a shame that Blizzard made them less so in WoW. Makes me sure miss the RTS days...

Yep. Some pretty strong foundations for some of them to remain, too.

I've bumped into a lot really impressive art/concept art about Skyrim.
When one of their lead artists died at Bethesda not too long ago, they committed a huge page that collected his works :3 Was a really nice to see how the concepts gone for the races, especially the undead + the dwarf machines :3
Dunno if ya can find it anywhere by now, but its priceless ^^
He did a lot environment sketch also :3
+1 for loving the Homeworld and Fire Emblem series ^^ They are amazing works :3

Yes. I swear there is not a single thing I can fault about the Homeworld series either... but I want Homeworld III, darn it!
Never knew about the Bethesda artist carking it, btw. What a loss...

Indeed :/
The main site was technically down because of it. The memorial page that collected his works and histry was up there instead for a few days. Must admit, I salute for Bethesda for upholding such a memorial for one of their own oO
And yea :3 Would be nice to see a Homeworld III ^^

Unfortunately we might not get that wish, though. THQ is apparently falling apart of late, and Relic is part of their order, so...

Ah darn :/
Really a shame if they would go down on the sewer. THQ and Relic both made some really entertaining and amazing games :3

Aye, no arguing there. Of all the companies I know, Relic has been one of the most inspirational in terms of story writing, artistic direction and definitely atmosphere.

According to Hebrew legend, the first woman God created as a companion for the first man Adam was Lilith.

Lilith's existence is indeed an interesting subject. Still, it makes little difference in the end. If she did or does indeed exist in our world, it is Eve's children who we are usually reminded to be descendants from.

Yes. It's just they're very hard to find on the net, especially when it comes to quality files. I'd love to study his work more intensely.
