Description
Several more ship classes have been added to the chart! The Sillome Class is a new type of recovery ship. These are used for emergency rescue operations, salvage, assisting damaged ships, and other engineering jobs. Compare to other Alfurian ships the Sillomes are very lightly armed. They are equipped with decent shields and normalization, but lack of armor and weapons means they are not supposed to be in active combat situations. If in any environment suspected of danger, they will need an escort. Two cranes assist in moving wreckage or tugging damaged ships.
Keihava Class destroyers are an aged ship design that are fading out of Alfurian combat doctrine. Refitting the remaining Keihava ships ensures they will be useful for a while to come though, and they can still be a threat. Engine power is excellent allowing the destroyers to accelerate quickly. What they lack in turret firepower is made up for with capable torpedo tubes, including two new superheavy torpedo launchers. Alfurian torpedoes are already intimidating, but these larger munitions advance that to a higher level. Similar to the spinal gun frigates, the huge munition launchers give the destroyers the ability to punch above their weight class. They are some of the last Alfurian ships that rely on maneuverability over shield protection, having mediocre shield protection per size ratio. Still, advancements in manipulator technology means the shields can take a few hits from powerful weapons before going down.
The backbone of Alfurian transport ships, the Khetta Class cargo ships are well enjoyed by their crews. Now a new pattern allows for them to be even more versatile in the trade and economic roles. Used for both military and civilian jobs, Khetta Class are pretty mobile. They have light armaments, only enough to fend off lighter attackers, though they do have a respectable missile pod battery that should not be underestimated especially at closer engagement ranges. Shield protection is decent but these ships are almost always escorted by more capable warships to ensure safe passage. The aft crane rail can be angled "down" away from the stern in order to offload cargo onto whatever is below the ship, usually giving it more room to maneuver in planetary landing zones. As with the rest of the refitted classes, communications and maneuvering ability have been vastly increased.
There has been no type of Alfurian ship refitted more over time than the Vakun Class. It is fast, nimble, strong alone or in a group, excellent at scouting, awesome as a fleet combat ship. Modern additions only extrapolate the versatility of the vessels by boosting sensor range, communications range, and enhancing combat abilities. Modern Vakuns have more and stronger shields than ever before. This allows them to be stronger beyond any mount of conventional armor could provide, even with advanced sovexian meshplates. New main gun turrets allow for rapid firing for saturation damage, making the light cruisers capable of gunning down nimble ships while also unleashing withering fire onto larger ships. Not to forget, x4 torpedo tubes make them effective against larger targets too.
Kaul Class cruisers are beloved for being the capable space support beasts that they are. They are sluggish, with energy being reserved for other systems rather than engines. Weapons, armor, and especially shields are strong features. Unlike the Sillome, Kaul cruisers are combat support craft. They can conduct rescues of crews and ships mid fight, while under fire. Most of the weapons are defensive or dual purpose, specifically heavy Gatling flak turrets that can shoot down enemy munition and strike craft, or rake enemy targets with smothering rates of fire. The ships also are fitted with six distortion beam turrets as well to give them some offensive firepower. More importantly though, two superheavy sovex manipulators give the cruisers awesome protection to size ratios, even allowing them to shield nearby friendly assets. These manipulators can also be used in conjunction with the four cranes to maneuver wreckage and ships, though slowly.
Made infamous during Alfur's not too distant in the past civil war, the Pitakoul Class assault cruiser is now more dangerous than ever. Favored by the more aggressive Frinatic arms of the Airnavy, these ships are extremely fast an maneuverable. However the outstanding feature of these are the sheer amount of firepower they carry. Sacrificing hull reinforcements for more gundeck space makes them almost glass cannons, however this issue has been addressed and countered by the addition of many medium shield manipulators. Pitakoul cruisers can almost always kill the enemy or quickly disengage before their shields go down. If the shields go down, these ships take damage quickly, so they are used with unique tactics that play into the strengths of Alfurian shielding. Between mobility and shield power, Pitakoul ships can hit and run with devastating effect. If Alfur was at war, these would make terrifying raiding ships that operate alone or in small offensive focused groups. Their guns and shields give them some flexibility of use, ensuring they will be a favorite of the Frinatic branches for decades to come.
