Description
My brain works in strange ways. When I was a kid (about three to five) I was a hardcore astronomy geek. I also had an audio cassette (Yes I grew up in the nineties) of an album called "the Planets". I can't quite remember the artist, but each of the weird electronic/instrumental songs was inspired in a planet, or at least their esoteric "essence". I loved that album, and I used to imagine the wonders of each world while I listened.
Fast forward a few years, when I was about 8 or 9 my dad bought the album "Mutter" by Rammstein, and I saw again the mental pictures of the planets, with the additional benefit that, by that age, I was -sort of- capable of expressing them through drawings. Each song corresponded to a planet, and it took me various repeats of the album to draw them all. I retrospective those drawings are LAME... I still have them somewhere... but at the time, that ability to form and draw mental pictures from what I listened became quite the discovery for me. Succesive albums by Rammstein corresponded so well with what I imagined that it became a sport for me every time a new album appeared in my house. After a few years I did succesively Sehnsucht, Reise Reise and Rosenrot... each spawned like three or four iterations of my mental pictures on the planets, that evolved from simple glyph-like doodles, to semi-mechanical creatures and fantastic spherical aliens inspired in the information I had on the appearence and characteristics of the entities in the solar system, as well as the tone and feel of the songs.
My last iteration on these "spirits" was made almost 10 years ago, and I found it a few months ago while I was skimming trough my old drawings in the attic. I figured that after so much time and all the new things that I've learned since 2005 it would be cool to revisit these concepts and improve them. A while ago I did some sketches based this time not in music, but in the physical, astronomical and occult characteristics of the Planets.

06 - SATURN
· the Sorceress ·
Traditionally, the Planets most associated with gender properties are Venus and Mars . but in this series, those roles kinda shifted into Jupiter and Saturn. my Jupiter has some of the properties of the Astrological Mars, namely, that it is a warrior of sorts. And I have always read Saturn's Ivory color and ornate rings as a better symbol of beauty than Venus' hellish visage.
I envisioned Saturn as an elegant, ghostly and beautiful witch, with powers over Ice and Electricity. Designwise I went for a much cleaner and streamlined design than most of my other spirits, to create a slick, lightweight-looking creature that kinda merges the look of Sphinx Moths with Art Deco .
I ended using a lot of artificial and metallic textures for this one, mainly for the aesthetic, but also referencing the weird metallic properties that hydrogen manifests in the core of Gas Giants; Metal, and electricity... if Jupiter played on a fiery aurora crown, Saturn was based on the wild Thunderstorms that form on both planets.
Also of interest is Saturns Hexagon , a unique atmospheric phenomenon that is particularily cool because Saturn is the sixth planet. I made a play on it as a sigil, using sacred geometry reference images and, of course, a snowflake.

It's just entirely fun to look at. It's got that kind of 'je ne sais pas' feel to it.

Oh wow, that’s so amazing! It’s nothing like I would have imagined it myself but exactly that is the beauty of such concepts... they take many different faces depending on whoever is picturing them. I really like the thought you put into all its features and how you depicted the planet's properties

Thank you!
Maan, I took ages to reply, didn't I? sorry...
Yeah, even in my own mind these concepts are always changing! They feel kinda random at times, but I'm happy with this version, and glad you liked it!
I'm stuck with the Ice Giants, though... haven't quite figured them out yet.

Anytime!
No worries, there’s no rush
That’s pretty cool though... and I reckon that only adds to it. It’s like the way you depicted them here is just a snapshot capturing their look at that time and at the same time, also capturing your own emotions. The randomness of it might just be due to that fact...
Yeah, i can imagine them being a bit harder to "spiritize" as they’re all rather similar... I’m sure you’ll find a solution though
