I like the design of this, and the details of the spiky bits. Nice touch with the eye/pendant/thing in the middle.
As for interpretation, looking at the thumb I thought it was some kinda demented crucifiction but on a larger scale it turned out it wasn't

You know what's funny? I started out drawing this as a sad girl, but before I even finished working out the head and shoulder I started morphing it into something else. And eventually I aimed for something death-like but morphed as well.

Wow...for some reason, I felt sad for it when it first loaded. I don't know...hmm...he's like a warrior who has seen too many battles. His body can no longer keep up with his warrior spirit, but you can see that the spirit is still alive and strong...

What kind of pen do you usually use for these sketches? Just a ballpoint?

no, it's an ink pen.
ballpoint pen- presses hard down on the surface area of the paper and makes the paper have texture, "you can feel the strokes" but is terrible for coloring in solid areas. Good for shading and gradation
ink pen- watery and will bleed. Excellent for sharpness and solid areas or solid forms. Difficult to control somewhat and very very tricky to shade with, but it comes out nice
I used to use ballpoint but I find that I like this stuff a lot better.
