Description
There had been a great deal more pageantry than Willow had expected in wrestling, a detail highlighted by just how involved and spectacular her opponent's own entrance was versus her own. She hadn't seen a real need for those sorts of theatrics, even now as she watched the woman across from her striking provocative poses clearly under the guise of stretching. Not that it wasn't appealing, it just seemed like wasted effort. The crowd around the two of them however seemed to enjoy the show.
Willow pursed her lips as a soft thoughtful hum escaped her at the realization. It was a show, wasn't it? A big stage for entertaining. While she wasn't one to dismiss an opponent, especially after hearing murmurs they might be a worthy foe, the place and circumstance did shade her expectations slightly. She had decided to soak it in rather than dwell on looming disappointment should this fight potentially wind up unchallengingly disappointing and just oogle a bit like the rest of the observers seemed keen to do.
Outside of their match, Willow would have likely given the lithe dark-complexioned woman across from her a bit more a bit more consideration. Conventionally attractive to be certain, but she wasn't really sure about her aesthetic. She didn't present herself as much of a fighter unless the minimum effort of wrapping one's hands or feet counted as anything beyond show. When they finally met each other's eyes, she was struck by just how bright and vibrant they were before being given a suggestive wink. Willow quirked a brow and shrugged. Not one to really indulge while she was in the heat of battle, a bit of playful banter before a fierce competition never hurt.
"Aren't you cute?" Willow mentioned breathily as she bounced lightly in place, getting a nice feel for the give of the ring beneath her feet. A quick check of her gloves and she was good to go. When she looked back up, however, her opponent wasn't prancing about or posing any longer, she was glaring daggers in Willow's direction. It was a stark change to the flirtatious manner in which she had presented herself moments ago.
"What did you say?" Jinx let out a low growl, flexing her fingers in and out of a clenched fist. Her body language was tense, the edge in her words apparent. Had Willow done something to upset her? Perhaps her words had been misheard? An unintentional slur or cultural difference between the two leading to a misunderstanding.
"That you sure are cute." Willow reiterated slowly and clearly so there could be no mistaking what she had said. The twitch in her opponent's eye seemed to indicate that perhaps she had been heard just fine the first time.
Ding!
No sooner had the bell sounded than Jinx was already rocketing towards her. The distance between them had been substantial but covered in a flash, finding the feline fighter leaping towards her with a flying kick. Willow swiftly dipped to the side, spinning her body out of the trajectory of the attack, her hair fluttering in the wake of her opponent passing by her at such a high speed. Such aggression would not go unanswered, however. A hand snapped out, catching her opponent by the ankle mid-flight, throwing her other palm out to slam it into Jinx's thigh. Stepping in, Willow twisted her body to take control over her opponent's trajectory, flinging her off course to fly head over heels through the air off to the side.
What looked to be an uncontrollable spin found Jinx throwing out her arms before hitting the mat, catching her landing, and tucking her body into a controlled tumble to arrest her momentum. She sprang back up, whirling about to face Willow while the martial artist was circling wide, both women's eyes locked in understanding this had suddenly become very real.
Jinx approached slowly, unguarded. Willow couldn't help but snort softly at the brazenness of it, painting a picture of confidence or arrogance she wasn't soon to let go unchecked the moment she saw an opportunity. As she neared, Jinx dropped low, flinging out a wide kick that wasn't even remotely close to landing… then another… and another. It took a moment for Willow to realize with each kick, her opponent spun faster and faster, slowly advancing with each capoeira-styled kick until her movements were nearly a blur. She followed the kicks as best she could, bracing herself by digging a heel back into the mat, waiting, watching for just the right moment to interject…
Swoosh swoosh swoosh CRACK!
Seizing her opportunity Willow inched in, throwing up her arm to catch the kick. The impact sent a spike of pain along her nerves, numbing her forearm and making her shoulder spasm but hold under the force. In the clash, the two women struggled opposite of each other, commanding control with stubborn resilience to overpower one another. It was Willow who managed to break away, forcing her arm outward to send the blocked kick off to the side. She stepped in with a large stomp, looking to ground her opponent but the feline fighter was already gone, trying to skirt around her a tight semi-circle.
Willow darted after, moving opposite her opponent, keeping her on the outside where they were backed against the ropes. A flurry of exchanged blows, glancing kicks, narrowly avoided punches as the two fought with blinding fervor, trying to make a dent in the other. A sidekick found purchase, finally, giving the martial artist an opening as Jinx lurched forward in pain. With a tight grip of the wrist and Willow slipped up against her opponent, sweeping the feline fighter off her feet, hurling her onto the mat with a snappy hip toss. Drawing back her first, she thrust it down at her prone opponent, looking to deliver a devastating strike to her head.
Willow's knuckles crunched against the canvas just shy of their target as Jinx twisted her body away, throwing her legs up to snare the martial artist's outstretched arm. The two struggled against one another before Willow felt her balance wane and her body dragged down to a thud with Jinx attempting to draw her scissored arm back into a full armbar. Willow brought her hands together, dovetailing her fingers into one another to lock her arm in place and keep it from being manipulated. A temporary solution but a necessary one unless she intended to be tapped out right here. Planting her feet on the canvas, the martial artist pushed off the mat a bit, giving her enough leverage to push her weight down on top of Jinx, grinding the point of her elbow down into the feline fighter's chest each time she attempted to force her submission attempt. It paid off as her opponent shoved her away, surrendering the armbar with a frustrated grunt.
It was a race to their feet as they parted, Willow kicking her legs out to kip up from her back to the ball of her feet while Jinx, in a less opportune position, was left to scramble, losing the race. Willow greeted her with a stiff palm strike to the face, sending her reeling. Not looking to give up her advantage, the martial artist followed to harry her opponent, throwing out a few snappy punches which a defensive Jinx was forced to meet with her arms in a guard respond with evasive retreating, keeping her on the back foot.
Willow lunged forward, clamping her hands down on Jinx's shoulders, trying to get a firm grasp on her to lay it with a barrage of knee strikes. As she tugged the other woman closer, the feline fighter threw up her arm from between the martial artist's forearms, knocking them aside and breaking the grapple. When Willow moved to back away however she found Jinx had hooked her arms down and around to capture her wrists, keeping her in place. With a hard pull, she was drawn into a leaping Jinx, a single knee firing up at her chin.
The impact was shattering. Snapping Willow's head back in a whipping veil of hair and saliva as her eyes rattled around in her skull. Her ears were buzzing, muffling the sounds of the crowd with a high-pitched ring as she was left to stare at the rafters for what felt like a long moment. Suddenly everything began to twist as gravity saught to drag her down but her feet would move to keep her balance. When she blinked to clear her vision her eyelids fluttered and remained shut as she collapsed onto the mat in a heap.
When her eyes finally opened again everything was a blur, it took a few blinks to adjust to her contact lenses as she stared out across the canvas as she lay face down. The roar of the crowd slowly came back to her as the ringing subsided. Gathering her palms underneath herself she moved to push herself up only to find it more difficult than she imagined. Something shifted across her back, weighing her down.
"Not so cute now, huh?" Jinx's voice behind her made Willow's ears perk as she let herself settle back onto the mat. Awkwardly shifting herself, she glanced back to see the referee already announcing her opponent had managed to win, though the method wasn't readily known to her. She imagined the brief lapse in time just now had been from a momentary blackout… that had been one hell of a knee shot. Her opponent seemed to think so too, staring down at her with a look of condescension. Though that changed to annoyance when Willow let out a small laugh. It served her right for underestimating this girl.
"What's so funny?" Jinx huffed, arms folded firmly beneath her breasts as she glared down at Willow.
"Wow, you were pretty good." Willow couldn't help but smirk even with the pain still throbbing in her face. This had been an unexpectedly impressive find and she couldn't wait to showdown with Jinx again after she had taken some time to recover. "Please forgive me if I upset you. It was intentional."
Jinx's features twisted a bit in confusion. Grace in defeat was a foreign concept to her, almost as much as getting an unwarranted apology. Her visible anger faded, though her frustration was still readily visible of her features as she let out a heavy huff and turned away. "Tch. I'll think about it… you're pretty good too, I guess."
"Mind getting off of me now?" Willow inquired with a snicker.
"Naw," Jinx murmured with a smirk of her own.
