Description
After "Starfleet Command 2," I was very much looking forward to "Starfleet Command 3" and a continuation of the Starfleet Battles storylines. SC2 ended with the Interstellar Concordium establishing and maintaining a very unstable peace throughout the Octant. It was assumed by many that SC3 would cover the Andromedan invasion of the galaxy with both the Andromedans and Tholians becoming playable races in the game. Instead, SC3 completely abandoned the Starfleet Battles storyline, eliminated all but three of the playable factions (Feds, Romulans and Klingons) and set it in the TNG era with a random, original storyline of its own.

Needless to say, at the time, it was a grave disappointment. The Lattice class is my own design for what a "Tholian dreadnought" might have been like had Starfleet Command 3 continued with the TMP-era Starfleet Battles theme and included the Tholians as a playable faction. I tried to incorporate the lore from the SFB games which state that the Tholians are a remnant of a much larger extra-galactic empire that lost much of their technology and manufacturing abilities. And so to build "dreadnought" type vessels to protect their holdings in our galaxy, the Tholians took to bolting multiple frigate-sized hulls together.
