Are you SURE that thing's a female? Considering the translation in Japan...I mean, there's Vivian from Paper Mario 2, who's a boy in Japan, obviously changed to a pure female in the States.

There's a thing with that. This similar thing happened when Amy in Japan, got translated as Princess Sally in Sonic CD. Princess Sally is an American version of Sonic's girlfriend, whereas Amy is a love interest for him as well in an official state.
But in the end, Amy was the one in the games that wasn't named Princess Sally.
This might've happened due to some crappy employer. But eh, who knows? Vivian is a girl's name in the USA, and Nintendo might be located somewhere else than the United States.

Yeah. Apparently, in Japan, Birdo has always been a man wishing to be a woman. But in the U.S., it's changed around. In Super Mario Bros. 2 he was a guy, but in later games it said Birdo was female. Now they're starting to leave everything ambiguous.

Its even funnier if you realize that in Super Mario Brothers 2 (the crappy version we got, which was originally doki doki panic.. but thats a different story) Birdo was actually a male who wore a bow in his hair because he wanted to be a woman.
It makes this comic iron and also hilarious.
