I actually had no idea they gave out Pulitzer Prizes for editorial cartooning until everyone made a big stink about the complete lack of a fiction winner this year. (Which I think is worth making a big stink about. Because seriously?) I think it’s… amusing… that a Pulitzer can be given out for a political cartoon, but not a freaking novel.Yeah. The subtext here is that I want a Pulitzer Prize. For my political cartoon. Let’s make this happen, Prize Committee of the Future!

The bag labeled "money problems" represents state capitalism and its ultimate goal of redistributing cash from the lower and middle classes up to the business magnates who rely on government involvement to float their businesses.
The pretty girl is wearing a North Korea shirt to show her solidarity with the oppressed citizens of the totalitarian state, who starve while their government pours money into weapons of war, which is represented by the star-shaped pasties affixed to her heaving bosoms.
The media, represented here as a leering pervert armed with a camera, ignores the young lady's message of solidarity and instead reduces her to a set of boobies.
Europe is too busy worrying about their outward appearance to notice any of this.
The Republicans' economic plan, as represented by the axe, will fall squarely on the head of the working class, represented here by the perplexed fellow who is being unfairly taxed at a higher percentage than, say, G.E.
And the sandwich represents the occupation of Afghanistan, which the U.S. has been holding aloft as a noble gesture of peacekeeping, but which is, in fact, full of mold and salmonella, and has brought mostly pain and dry heaves to those it has been intended to help.
