Description
Yet another APH sketch, my third in 2 days - this series and its fandom is so inspiring!! Could it be I'm over my Artist's Block?? *_*Anyways, peculiarities I noticed while traveling different European countries!
1) UK and Ireland: Left-hand traffic. As a continental, you'll keep looking in the wrong direction for the first few days and nearly getting run over all the time.
2) The Netherlands, or at least Amsterdam: The European capital of cyclists. Who also nearly run you over all the time.
3) Scandinavia (at least I know for sure about Sweden and Norway): driving at snail's pace on the motorway, and paying astronomical fees if you break the speed limit.
4) France: The kingdom of roundabouts. The simply love'em. And it's true they're quite handy, you can go round and round in circles while you check which one is the correct exit.
5) Germany: as opposed to Scandinavia, there is NO speed limit at all on the motorway! People bomb down on it at 200km/h or more... um, climate protection, anyone?
6) Poland: they never stop to let pedestrians cross the street, not even if there's a pedestrian crossing! Their motto seems to be, "It's like, totally too much trouble to stop."
7) Austria: The kingdom of road signs. We have at least 30 per capita, and many of them redundant, misleading or even contradictory!
8) Southern Europe: "Trafick regulashuns? Wassat? Can you eat it?" I can't even say which country is the worst - maybe Italy, Italians on their little scooters will kill you dead!!
Road traffic is a big adventure all around Europe

LOVE IT! i definitely argue that Italians are the worst when it comes to traffic regulation. Plus, the further south you go, the worse it is DX

Is it like that in the US, to? I mean, are the streets more dangerous in Texas than in say, Chicago? XD
Maybe it has something to do with climate...

actually, as far as i've noticed it really has to do more with who lives there. the drivers we mock the most are the ones from New Jersey, with New York not too far behind. That MIGHT be due to the stronger Italian influence there lol

Spanish drivers are insane. Took a taxi in Seville once. Thought I was gonna die. Our bus driver managed to pull a 38 point turn to get us into our hotel in Mijas though. xD

A few American friends were driving with me in Germany and they had no idea how fast we were going, because they couldn't read kilometers.
I, meanwhile, was praying in the backseat.

I know when I was able to go to Europe, Im from America, Me and my friends were so confused in Italy, Its like everyone was just going any which way at any speed, there were no lines. We agreed we did not wanna drive in Italy.... No offense to Italians.

The things i've heard/read about traffic in Europe worry me. If i were to visit (hopefully some day), i don't want to get run over while crossing the street ;~;

unfortunately I haven't been to Finland yet (only 3 hiurs at Helsinki airport, but that doesn't count) so I don't know how your traffic sitation is... it is similar to Sweden and Norway?
Thankes for the comment, btw

Well the motorway thing ain't the same, we usually drive 120 km/h, some people drive even faster.
But we need to pay alot if we break the speed limit.
And no problems at all~ c:

Lol yes, Antonio seems to have brought his road traffic tradition over to South America *g* (some previous commentors were saying it's the same in Costa Rica, and Mexico etc.)
B-but how does the Polish influence come in??
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BlueberrySakura In reply to akabeko [2010-09-10 13:35:41 +0000 UTC]
Ahahahaha yes, not to mention Romano and Veneciano... most immigrants were from Italy and Spain and such southern european countries xDD
The Polish comes in because over here you'll get run over if you try to cross the street where there's no traffic lights. There's VERY FEW considerate drivers that will let you cross. So crossing the streets is sort of like KAMIKAZE YAAAAH xDDD

Ahwww Netherlands is sooo cute
I live in the Netherlands and everyone has a bike.. it's really normal here actually.. Middle and high schoolers all go to school with a bike.. Probably because you don't have hills you have to ride on like in france.. it's really handy if you ask me.. I don't know the situation of cyclists in other country's.. so for me it's just normal

Thank you, I'm so happy I got him right (along with Denmark, Poland and Lithuania, Netherlands is my favourite APH character )
It is actually a very good thing cycling is so popular in the Netherlands, both for the environment and people's health!!
In Austria, they are trying to make cycling more popular but unfortunately, not very successfully... -_-

I will say you which country’s traffic is worst: Turkey! It’s like a mixture of Southern Europe, Poland and Germany. No one cares pedestrians and even pedestrians not care the cars. Everyone drive like crazy, they’re always so speedy and don’t mind the speed limits. There are so many motorcycles and we have a trouble which named as “dolmuş”. Dolmuşes are something like big sharing taxis but there are so many of them and they are everywhere!

akabeko In reply to derara-isis [2010-09-10 10:58:39 +0000 UTC]
LOL. Another commentor from Costa Rica described the situation in her country like that, too! *gg*
Why is the traffic in all Southern countries so always chaotic, I wonder? XDDD
(I've never been to Turkey yet but I'll be VERY careful when I go *gg*)

derara-isis In reply to akabeko [2010-09-10 17:12:34 +0000 UTC]
I’m glad that Turkey is not only one But maybe I shouldn’t glad to hear that. It’s a terrible thing!
Maybe because of the Sun? If only people who live in warmer climate act like that, maybe the real reason is only about how weather hot or cold. It’s just my theory
(You should see Turkey if you get a chance; there are so many nice and interesting places here but you better be careful on traffic and shouldn’t trust sellers so much )

akabeko In reply to derara-isis [2010-09-10 19:14:10 +0000 UTC]
Yes, maybe it really is the sun and heat, maybe it makes people hot-blooded - while in colder central and northern Europe, people are more melancholy XDD
Science should do some research here, maybe that could improve the traffic situation everywhere XDD

Gotta admit, when I went on a trip to Europe (Greece, Italy, and France, to be specific), I was rather concerned for my life whenever we had to cross a street.
Especially in Naples. Seriously, are road signals used for anything besides decoration around there?!

That's adorable! It looks like a Hetalia version of Mario Kart. I love studies like this. They do suggest quite a bit about personality.
I guess if you're driving in Austria you need to learn to speed read, or just figure out which ones to ignore.
I once heard that Germans tailgate like nobody's business.
