Description
Who has time to be a 'metaphor for nuclear holocaust' when you're busy saving the world?Β
Doing the whole Ultraman Mebius/Ultra Galaxy thing here with Godzilla 74 (my favorite Godzilla design of all time)
Basically going in and reworking minor aspects of the design to make it a bit more functional and seem ever so slightly more plausible, but leaving the general shape and character there-- something tsuburaya is pretty good at.
Neo-showaism ftw.Β

Β If Toho ever continues the Showa series or reboots Zone Fighter, I hope they use this as a basis for Godzilla's look.Β It's a fantastic design and itΒ has a lot of personality.

You're welcome.
Honestly, I always preferred the idea of Godzilla of being aΒ superhero-like figure more than him being a grimdark, 2edgy4me metaphor for nukes. There's more storytelling and merchandising potential, not to mention it allows to him to expand as a character. You can only tell the same story for so long before it gets boring.
I don't know about you, but am I the only one who would love to see a 50 meter tall Godzilla defeat a 100 - 200 meter tall enemy monster? That would be so awesome!

If you were a woman, I'd kiss you right now.
Toei and Tsuburaya understand that mentality. Godzilla movies aren't popular with Japanese children because no little kid would go to a movie about superman where he is called a bad guy for an hour and a half and then is defeated in some deus ex machina way.
And as far as grimdark stuff goes, I think we can say most of the showa films were actually less juvenile and darker than even the -darkest' godzilla films.
Lets not forget that in the first mothra film, she kills more people than Godzilla and Rodan combined as she travels across the world searching for the faeries.Β

Seeing some neo-showaism in Godzilla would be the greatest thing ever, in my opinion.Β
