Description
  • Sunflora: a reference to how the figurehead of the Thousand Sunny was initially described as a sunflower. Also works pretty well with Luffy's whole sun-business and, on a more strategic side of things, can get used as a set up for the other Pokémon in his team. Sunny Day not only goes well with Luffy bringing the Dawn to the world, but also helps the other fire Pokémon in his team
Attacks: Sunny Day - Light Screen - Encore - Solar Beam

  • Ambipom: it's a funny monkey, going decently well with Luffy's childlike personality. In combat, it can seriously boost the other Pokémon in the team, with Baton Pass being a refernce to how the Straw Hats sometimes end up switching opponents if they're unable to beat their current ones
Attacks: Double Hit - Baton Pass - Agility - Double Team OR Work Up

  • Pyroar: again, a reference to the Thousand Sunny, as well as Luffy's "Leo Bazooka" attack and his role as the leader of the crew. Matches with the mostly fire-based team he has. Hyper Voice and Noble Roar can be seen as a reference to Conqueror's Haki and Luffy shouting at his opponents
Attacks: Noble Roar - Flamethrower - Sunny Day - Hyper Voice

  • Volcarona: another reference to Luffy's godlike connection with the sun, as well as his love for bugs of all sorts. Its "Dance" attacks, I think, could be seen as a nice connection to the Drums of Liberation and the jovial nature of Luffy's Awakening
Attacks: Quiver Dance - Fiery Dance - Bug Buzz - Heat Wave

  • Lucario: reference to Haki and how Luffy mastered it over the course of the series. The fighting type matches well with Luffy's own fighting style. Detect is a reference to Luffy's mastery of Observation Haki
Attacks: Aura Sphere - Detect - Meteor Mash - Close Combat

  • Ace Pokémon Infernape: like Luffy, it's based on Sun Wukong, matches well with Luffy's hot headedness, fighting style as it also uses its entire body/every limb, and cause it also specialises in speed and because it's said to take on any opponent
Attacks: Flare Blitz - Slack Off - Close Combat - Acrobatics

I would have loved to include Solgaleo but I didn't want to use any Legendary Pokémon if possible, which is why he ended up with Pyroar and Sunflora instead.
