Description

Design and Development

With the success of the Constitution Refit Program, Starfleet turned to refitting those similar Constitution-Class hull. The first candidate was the Saladin-Class starship.

The original configuration was morphed into the Apollo-Class starship. This refit allowed the designer of the ship, to eliminate the flaws and drawbacks, such as lack of heavy weaponry and manouverablitiy.

23rd Century

The class is usually seen doing mining operations, survey operations; before handing over to more capable ships like the Constituion-Class.

The class is also prominently used in the academy for practical lessons, particulary during the final year.

By late-2280s, the class, along with the Akula- and Constituion-Class, were designated as legacy ships. Unlike the Constitution-Class, production for this class and her variant ceased by the end of the century.

24th Century

However, during the tensions between the Federation and Klingon, Starfleet decided to produced the Apollo- and Akula-Class starships, as the Oberth-Class in inadequate in tactical situations.

The Federation-Cardassian war also prolonged the life of this class and her variant.

By 2367, after the Battle of Wolf 359, Starfleet realised that the ship had seen its days and decided to remove the class from production entirely. Additionally, pulled several nearby ships into decomissioning.

One Apollo-Class starship was seen in the Battle of Sol System, from the second Borg invasion.

Technical Data

Computer Systems

Originally, the class was equipped with the same duotronic systems found on all 23rd century Federation starships.

This is one of those class which participate in the computer system conversion, which converts duotronic systems to the new isolinear circuitry, before passing down to all of the 23rd century ships.

Propulsion Systems

It had a maximum warp speed 8.5 (old Cochrane scale), though it is possible to bring the ship speed to Warp 9.5.

Under the new cochrane scale, it could do Warp 8.4-8.7, depending on the condition of the engines, mostly reporting managed to go up to Warp 8.5 without damaging the ship.

Scientific Systems

The scientific system is equal to the Constitution-Class starships, though there are some areas which requires the ship to go to the nearest starbase and loan its science equipment.

Tactical Systems

The class carries six phaser banks, four torpedo launchers in total.

In the 24th century, those dual-emitters phaser banks were refitted to single-emitters. They fired in a continous beam, rather than long-pulse.

Crew Support

In the 24th century, crew support for this class was limited.

There are civilians, holding various engineering and science division, previously not allowed in the previous century.

However, in the early 24th century, before the crew support was added, captains added their own rules regarding crew support.

Upgrades

Transitioning to the 24th century, some of the crew quarters were changed from two bedded bunks to single bed, allowing more privacy.

~ Notes ~

The dimensions are not taken directly from Star Trek Legacy, they are inferred from the Franz Joseph design. This is assuming the Apollo, and its destroyer version (Akula variant) shares the same saucer dimension as the Constitution Class.

Only one qualm I have.  No aft-firing torpedo-launchers.
