Description ...Hyperactivity Disorder.
You do not have it.

Apparently the term "ADD" was phased out in the 90s. Who knew.

Requested.

Old comment, you don't have to reply or anything if you want to, but I just felt like saying... Recent brainscans of people (adults included!) have shown that a brain afflicted with ADHD has lower levels of neurotransmitters (and other crucial aspects of the brain).
This article has a lot of brainscan images. Don't worry, there isn't any bloody images. (though they might be hard to read if one hasn't ever seen a brainscan before, I needed to find a guide myself).
Basically ADHD is caused by the brain being, for lack of a better word (that I myself know), misshapen or underactive, which is surprising considering people associate ADHD with hyperactivity.
I do respect your opinion, please note, because stuff like this is still in the grey area.

TL;DR: With all due respect, I would like to show you that there are scientific images supporting the theory of ADHD.

Not only young hype kids have it. Even if ADD doesn't exist like for real, it can be used to describe problems of adults like me. I'm not really hyped, but ADD is not only about it. It's more of gathering a lot of information and about brain treating every piece of it equally. There's no hierarchy, there are problems with accepting authority, it's constant race of thoughts in your mind, it's often even not showing how do you feel on the outside, even if you boil inside because of perceiving too much, and out-bursting in fury because of little things. It's not being able to stay focused if there is not enough of stimulation (need for strong short stimulation or for forced multitasking, tricking your brain into being assured that it is occupied i.e.: listening to music, drawing, talking, doing homework, writing and eating at the same time, or being unable to travel by bus/tram without a book or headphones.)

I know this comment is old, and I'm not trying to be a jerk but I think the stamp creator was referring to the idiots that like to fake having ADHD (or any other mental disorder, really). It's okay if you were offended though, the description isn't too clear.

No, I think you're right, but the way the creator phrased the description was fairly unclear, and the stamp itself is rather blunt, so I misunderstood the first time I saw it. c:

ADHD is real thoughΒ

The all-too-common and problematic tendency of those on the ADHD beat is to downplay its symptoms, their debilitating effects and the troubling outcome when someone who needs a diagnosis doesn’t get one. Commentators often appear to assume that the dramatic increase in ADHD diagnoses over the past 20 years is largely the fault of conniving pharmaceuticals and a quick-fix society rather than a result of increases in awareness and understanding of ADHD as the science improves. But such broad-stroke theorizing does a disservice to the real problem of misdiagnosis β€” say, of children and teens struggling with bipolar disorder or vision problems but displaying many attention-deficit symptoms.

Saul’s book offers a good case study of such damaging tendencies. ADHD, he argues, is a group of symptoms β€” impulsivity, distractibility, hyperactivity β€” with other underlying causes, such as Asperger’s syndrome, sensory processing disorder, substance abuse and even absence seizures. On the basis of identifying ADHD as an umbrella disorder that covers a host of symptoms, he thereby dismisses it as something that doesn’t exist in its own right. Saul, who has treated patients suffering from debilitating ADHD symptoms for more than 50 years, should know better.

I hate how people just assume that the kids who are louder, mainly class clowns, have ADHD. Like fuck no. I have ADHD, and I'm totally silent during class. or I at least try to be. There's a different between refusing to learn and trying. I get 6 to 7 pills 2 times a day shoved down my throat because of my ADHD. The main point is, just because a kid refuses to learn, doesn't mean that they have ADHD.

ADD has been changed to being called ADHD "non-hyperactive" disorder, now really just classified under ADHD
a lot more people now say they have ADHD because of that, instead of ADD which is old fashioned, and if people actually end up getting tested for it like i did, in the end when you say "ADHD" you usually have to elaborate whether it's "attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - non hyperactive" or otherwise
even if they lie and just assume they have ADHD/ADHDNH you still don't really know what issues someone really has

Well, it seems a lot of parents self-diagnose their kids with ADHD, just do to the fact they're active kids that like to play. I know people who do actually have ADHD (hyperactive & inattentive.) A doctor has diagnosed them with it, and they demonstrate the symptoms of ADHD (not being able to pay attention, getting up and running in areas you're not suppose to be running in, having a hard time working, etc.) Although, for the parents that diagnose their kids with ADHD and haven't talked to a doctor about it, usually those kids are just active people that like to play, they don't demonstrate much of the ADHD symptoms; parents think it's easier to give their children a pill, instead of teaching them the right thing. Although, for this stamp, there are people who actually have ADHD; so you can't magically know they don't have it. If they've been demonstrating those symptoms and having it diagnosed by a doctor who specializes in ADHD, it most likely means they have the disorder.Β

No doubt being born with a brain defect that reduces dramatically one's ability to pay attention is a real thing.
But cases like this are on the rise. in April, 1/100 kids had "autism" And in May, 1/88 kids
Kids get slapped much less often for screwing around. A mental disorder of this similarity could just be bad parenting.
But I don't dare challenge the legitimacy of a case in public.
I'm only trying to help. The sooner parents grow genitalia and punish their kids for being bad, and rewarding them for good behavior, AND spend time teaching them, talking with them, playing with them, and acknowledging them regularly, the sooner we will be able to decipher between a bad kid and a disabled one.

but the rise might also be because they're just getting diagnosed more, because of raised awareness of such mental disorders, or even because of environmental factors.
