Description ...Hyperactivity Disorder.
You do not have it.

Apparently the term "ADD" was phased out in the 90s. Who knew.

Requested.

If you are a kid and the doctors just say you have, I think that's called "Being a kid"

I've actually been diagnosed with ADHD when I was a kid. And it wasn't me just "being a kid". You could tell I had it.

And how would you know I don't have ADHD? I was confirmed diagnosed with that, a math disability, and Autism by multiple sources. This stamp confuses me. Please clarify.

She's talking about those who don't have it but fake it to get attention.

Not when you have people faking it to look cool.

JaqErant92 In reply to kitsumekat [2014-04-07 15:24:37 +0000 UTC]

I don't see how anyone would think faking ADD makes them look cool. I got picked on all the time for it, and it definitely didn't feel cool or give me attention in a good way. In the end it made me clam-up and hide away because I was tired of being bullied.

It's lately the in thing to fake a disorder to get sympathy. I usually do the caffine test on those guys.

kitsumekat In reply to grasfluesterer [2014-05-19 20:57:45 +0000 UTC]

In an ADHD/hyperactive person, caffine has a reverse affect. It actually slows them down.

I have it - was actually just diagnosed by my doctor, actually. I get what you mean, though; there's a shirt I really hate that says something like, "I don't have ADD. It's just that...hey, look! A squirrel!" Which goes along with randomness, which people also think is funny, for some reason. It's kind of like saying "I'm sooooo depressed" when you don't actually have clinical depression. Just...ugh.

Noxious-Dreams [2014-03-06 13:59:31 +0000 UTC]

ADD was not fazed out. I was diagnosed with ADD when I was seventeen. That was only three years ago.
It is still an up and running term.Ā

MafiaDogz In reply to ??? [2014-02-18 01:09:49 +0000 UTC]

I do... And I hate it. I actually have ADD. I have no signs of even a tiny bit of hyperactivity... Unless I take my medication. I don't like the term ADHD. I prefer ADD.

Agreed. It's an excuse for people that are lazy and don't want to take responsibility for their actions or work. Sure, they can sit for hours playing a video game then when it comes to school they won't want to do anything. Just poor parenting and a lack of discipline.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Noxious-Dreams In reply to 682246 [2014-03-06 13:58:33 +0000 UTC]

That is not true at all.
Being ADD makes it extremely difficult to do those things but you still do it.
I grew up with it but I never told anyone about it because I wasn't diagnosed until I finally went to the doctor at 17.

There are a lot of people who truly do suffer from this. Its symptoms are not limited to just being attention deficit. It also includes social anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and physical pain.Ā
So don't treat it like it doesn't exist.Ā

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

682246 In reply to Noxious-Dreams [2014-03-06 16:08:24 +0000 UTC]

I thought anxiety was a totally different thing altogether. Well, most people certainly make ADD sound like it's just hard to pay attention. I've never heard of it retaining any of those other symptoms.Ā

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Noxious-Dreams In reply to 682246 [2014-03-06 16:46:46 +0000 UTC]

Anxiety is also its own separate thing.Ā
But it can also be a symptom to ADD.

Yeah, most people are in the dark about ADD.
there are actually a lot of people who have serious depression and have no idea that is linked to ADD until they finally go to a doctor about it. (like me)
Sure I have issues with paying attention, but it is mostly my mind constantly racing.
It makes it hard for me to sleep or anything. I am never thinking about just one thing because the images in my head never stop.

So ADD is real and it sucks. But it isn't an excuse. Just like most other disorders. People have to work a little harder to get past them, but they still need to not be lazy.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

682246 In reply to Noxious-Dreams [2014-03-06 18:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I see. Since most people seem to use it as an excuse I began to consider it as not being a real problem, but thank you for bringing that to light. Looks like there's a lot more to it than I thought.Ā

Same thing with OCD! as someone who has struggled with an actual disorder, I'm offended when someone like that says " I can't do those dishes, I have OCD!" Shut the fuck up, if you actually had OCD, those dishes would NEVER be allowed to even BECOME dirty.

I have ADHD. I was diagnosed with it.

But I don't need to take down pills or anything. UwU

I just need to take up therapy.

Seriously, why those people who have ADD and ADHD need to take down pills? I mean, they have really bad side effects? :I

Poison-Glass In reply to SpaceCinnaBuns [2014-03-16 22:11:12 +0000 UTC]

My best friend takes ADHD meds and they've basically saved his life. He hated the kind of person he was when he was unmedicated to the point of contemplating suicide - and even now, whenever he's unmediated because he forgot to take them and starts getting all hyperactive, he apologizes constantly and generally wants to cry and lock himself in his room.

Therapy is not a cure for everyone. Medication is extremely important to a lot of people. The side effects are not as bad as having a condition which makes you despise yourself.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

SpaceCinnaBuns In reply to Poison-Glass [2014-03-17 09:18:46 +0000 UTC]

Ah, theres a reason why I cant take meds. For one thing, Im already in way too many medication mostly because of these things called polycistic ovaries wherein tiny tumors are inside my uterus and such. Basically, I didnt want other medications to mix in with other meds and the side effects might worsen my condition so they assigned me to therapy which I admit, it is very useful for me.

Yes, the side effects of the ADHD Medications arent that bad such as loss of appetite. But due to my underweightness, they wont let me take them.

Poison-Glass In reply to SpaceCinnaBuns [2014-03-17 20:53:41 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that you should take meds over doing therapy, I just wanted to say that therapy works for some people and meds for others, and that for some people, the meds are a necessity.

MafiaDogz In reply to SpaceCinnaBuns [2014-02-18 01:11:55 +0000 UTC]

I take ADD/ADHD pills. The only bad side affect in the ones I take is loss of apatite. And it's rare. ADD/ADHD medication is not as dangerous as anti-depressants.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

SpaceCinnaBuns In reply to MafiaDogz [2014-02-18 11:37:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah but I'd rather do therapy instead of in taking medicine as I have way too many prescribed medications that was given to me that it might cause some side effects. X'D

lol.

The first person to diagnose it admitted to it being a fake disease.

Also, I was "diagnosed" with it too when I was younger, but guess what?
It's not real.
Our minds wander, our minds daydream; it's not a disease, that's just how they are nowadays.

As well, any erratic symptoms can be caused by bad food ingredients (dyes/colorings, artificial sugars etc).

Regardless, it can all be fixed via meditation; hone the mind like a laser, and there won't be much of a problem.
