...Hyperactivity Disorder. You do not have it.
Apparently the term "ADD" was phased out in the 90s. Who knew.

its not that its like a trend, doctors are just more aware of it now than they used to be.

A medical disorder recognized by the World Health Organization can't simply be "phased" out. Clearly you haven't met a person who suffers from this neurological disorder. Otherwise you'd see how devastating it can truly be and quickly retract this erroneous statement and call yourself asinine and half-witted for this. You insult all those people who must go through certain difficulties every single day just to bear with Attention Deficit Disorder. I encourage you to educate yourself properly. It might just make you change your mind.

I was diagnosed with ADD as a kid. I didn't even know until a couple years ago. Never took any medicine and I don't feel any more "impaired" than most people. I dunno if ADD/ADHD is even a real problem. It seems like people trying to medicate the natural "jumpiness" and hyperactivity out of children. Kids aren't going to be 100% focused and well-behaved/calm, they're children. Of course, bad diet may have something to do with it as well. (Sugar highs, etc.) Anyways, when I was young, doctors were diagnosing ADD left and right and I think my generation was way over-medicated for such things, and after you've been on ADD/ADHD medication, it's hard to function without it; in fact, you still have to take (a different) medication as an adult. More money for Big Pharm I suppose. I don't know if things are still that way now.

I thought so.
But my therapist really confused me, because for a while they thought I had ADHD, and I'm actually taking medication for it, but they also say ADD, even though I was told that ADD doesn't exist anymore, by that same therapist several years earlier.

ADD is just ADHD without the hyperness
(I think at least)
my psychiatrist uses both terms, while I was diagnosed with only ADD
I think ADD is a form of ADHD, like you can say it's both a bird and a pidgeon. Pidgeon means a bird, and ADD means ADHD
But I'm not sure though

I remember reading once that psychiatrists have a weird habit of diagnosing 'in' disorders. These days its the autism spectrum, awhile ago it was bipolar disorder.
ADHD is somewhere mashed in there, guess kids just like clinging to popular stuff :L

I have inattentive ADHD, but I don't act like people who fake it. I'm not just acting stupid, like they're acting. I'm the smartest kid in my school (and I'm not being narcisstic; I really am), and it pisses me off when people think that:
ADD/ADHD = stupid and/or lazy
My inattentive ADHD causes me to have real, frustrating problems. I don't fake it, and it's not cool to have.

heres my thought processes which are all fucked up because I REALLY DO hav A.D.H.D. I had trouble all through school, teachers treated me like a special needs case, and maybe i was, i sometimes feel stupid, and or embarased when i do something stupid, other times i do stupid stuf just to show off, i will proudly admit to having adhd because 1. i have gotten over it long ago, 2. it gives a good excuse when i do something stupid, and 3. no one really seems to care theese days, other than when they are joking around bout it.

But, whether or not you believe it's a real thing, that's your opinion, and I'm fine with that, it's really all good.

Exactly what I was going to say. And most of the time people won't experience symptoms if they take medicine for it, so most of the people who do have don't go around saying it because the medicine keeps it under control.

I still rather bemused that people actually WANT to have these disorders. You should make one about Asperger's Syndrome, that's another one that people inexplicably seem to desire.

Why... would someone want Asperger's? I've been diagnosed with it (And I have loads of other disorders I don't even know about yet) But I can't understand why someone would want to have Asperger's. O-o

Me too (that is, I've been diagnosed with Asperger's + other stuff). I don't get it either. It seems to me like they've heard that people with Asperger's are smart and eccentric - it tends to be the socially inept (albeit neurotypical) types that most want to have Asperger's - they think it would make them look like mysterious geniuses, instead of socially awkward geeks.

Cresselia2 In reply to 3zirconium3 [2011-01-16 14:06:06 +0000 UTC]
Which is kind of weird, because people with asperger's generally DO look like socially awkward geeks. I mean, I don't tell many people I have asperger's, and if I do, they usually don't know what it is. So it doesn't make a difference.
The neurotypical socially inept people need to get out more. I mean, I have asperger's and I'm more social than some of them. It's not that hard.

Cresselia2 In reply to 3zirconium3 [2011-01-16 20:08:28 +0000 UTC]
Yes, they do. "I have Asperger's" isn't really a good excuse for anything. Especially if you don't actually have Asperger's. I mean, if you're anything like me, you'd try and work as hard as possible to seem "normal"

3zirconium3 In reply to Cresselia2 [2011-01-17 01:44:23 +0000 UTC]

My friend is always telling me I must have it because of some things I tend to do and she's always telling me to go see a doctor (she has ADHD), but I don't have it, sure I might have several symptoms from it but it offends me when people think I've got it. My brother and my mother thought I had it when I was little. I don't want to have ADHD or ADD, and I don't want to find out nor go to a doctor. And people who are always saying "I don't have ADH- OH LOOK, A DOG!" just piss me off so bad.
