I say, don't keep any wild animal as a pet.
Sometimes it's even hard for me to accept foxes being on fur farms... I mean, they're called "wild animals" for a reason!

I agree even taking animals out from the wild for me is wrong.
I mean my friend had a "smart" idea to keep a squrriel as a pet then she wonderd why it bit her and ran away and died some were in her house.... Oh g idk lol

As a whole they are not endangered, though, thus cannot be placed on the endangered species list.

Actually, in the state of Illinois where I live (there's been sightings even though they just pass through), wolves are endangered

As long as wolf hunting is not legal in an area where wolves are considered to be endangered, then that's fine.
On a totally unrelated note, why do people hunt wolves in the first place? Is it just for sport?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
FoxWarrior17 In reply to Andi1990 [2012-01-04 22:41:10 +0000 UTC]
Well, people may hunt wolves for various reasons.
A few I know of are population control (Too many wolves, which may endanger other species that live in that ecosystem, so people hunt them ot keep the population down), for sport, for fur AND food, and for defense (As in, shoot a wolf so it doesn't eat your cow).
Sorry for replying to an old comment.

Grey wolves aren't endangered but red wolves are critically endangered, close to becoming extinct in the wild according to wikipedia, and are in more trouble then grey wovles. Why don't wolfaboos only think about grey wolves or arctic wolves?

BrightScale In reply to ??? [2011-10-09 03:17:44 +0000 UTC]
Grey wolves are actually a species of wolf with subspecies that are, in fact endangered.

corpse-voyage In reply to BrightScale [2012-08-13 03:19:53 +0000 UTC]
nobody really said anything about their subspecies. gray wolves really need to be hunted for population control, or lives could be at risk.

Common names are confusing. Also, taking a species that covers the globe as a whole is confusing. Let's start there.
-Yes. The "gray wolf" has lost its Endangered Species status in America. Canis lupus is not endangered, and is classified as a species of "Least Concern" by the IUCN. This is the species taken as a whole, including all animals worldwide.
-However. There are many well supported subspecies of Canis lupus worldwide -- such as Canis lupus arabs, Canis lupus baileyi, Canis lupus crassodon, etc. -- which are in fact threatened, endangered, or critically endangered. Certain wolves at the subspecies level are endangered, and wolves are certainly "endangered" at the local population level. So while Yellowstone and Alaskan wolves may be doing very well, many populations worldwide are not.
Sooo. I don't disagree...just saying, for clarity's sake.

Dear God, I bet you get a lot of wolfaboos here. But I agree, people should wisen up and realise that wolves aren't endangered and they aren't the most important animal in the world

People want to protect wolves because they are "beautiful" and "rare." How about supporting an animal that actually NEEDS to be protected?

Survival of the fittest. Even if they do go extinct it just means the could not adapt and thus fail in the battle for survival.

Why do people say "Oh well, they might not be endangered, but there is only -insert number here- wolves in my area! " What if the wolf is not native to your area, or that the area is not a great place for a wolf to stay?
JEEZUS PEOPLE!

And Grey wolves were SLIGHTLY endangered a few years ago. Not now.
I'm anti-wolfaboo, too. I'm just pointing out the facts

That is true. I should be less vague next time. Anyways, my friends like to go hunting, and one of their hobbies is shooting coyotes. Coyotes aren't in danger of becoming extinct, but I have a coydog, so I tend to sympathize with them.
