Poachers are going to be your main concern. Gosh, poachers make me sick.
Hunting is only allowed when the populations are very stable, and even then, there’s a cap for how many wolves can be legally killed. But most hunters I know stick to deer, birds, etc., things they can eat.
As for ranchers, they have legit reasons to kill wolves. Death of livestock costs them thousands of dollars. According to East Oregonian, 3 dead calves equals a $10,000 loss.
Wolves are beautiful animals, so it’s sad when a few die, but it won’t hurt the population. Those numbers are very carefully monitored.Β

Yeah that is true, the are some who say they monitor the population in some areas, and they actually don't and let people come in and murder a pack and murder pups. But I'm glad their are people who make sure not to let ranchers push them around. I do agree with population control, at a reasonable rate, but when people go shooting innocent pups, and pregnant mothers that's when, in my opinion is too far. It's sad to see, I feel bad for them, they just want to survive.😟

No they aren't, they are on the least concerned list. They were on the endangered list but were taken off in 2013. The wolf you are speaking of must be the Mexican gray wolf which is a subspecies, this person is referring to the common North American gray wolf aka the timber wolf.

Although the gray wolf, and many other canids weren't endangered, there are still some canids which were still at risk from extinction.

These are the canids that still needed to be saved from extinction as shown below:

- Red wolves (Canis rufus, once considered as subspecies of gray wolves) [critically endangered]

- Ethiopian wolves (Canis simensis) [endangered]

- Dholes (Cuon alpinus) [endangered]

- Darwin's foxes (Lycalopex fulvipes) [endangered]

- African wild dogs (Lycaon pictus) [endangered]

- Maned wolves (Chrysocyon brachyurus) [near threatened]

-Β Island foxes (Urocyon littoralis) [near threatened]

When this stamp was created, they in fact were endangered. But, now that it is 2016 they aren't considered endangered. Back in 2013 they removed them from the endangered species list.

You can find a list of the current endangered species of canines on World Wildlife Fund's website, and here
a-z-animals.com/animals/endang…

Stop commenting that the gray wold is endangered, just because they don't have any in your state doesn't make them endangered. In places like Montana & Idaho you can find a lot of them, so stop complaining.Β

In Oregon, they had to shoot some old/injured wolves that were attacking cattle. I personally didn't agree with their actions and how they handled the situation, but you can't fix the past. They tried trapping them several times, and nothing else could've been done.Β

From a worldwide point of view, the grey wolf isn't endangered andΒ is classified as an LC-species by most organisations, such as WNF, ESA and The Red List. While their natural range is nowadays smaller then their historical one, they aren't near endangerment and are even overpopulated in some regions. Some subspecies however, such as the Mexican and Indian wolf, are considered to be endangered. The grey wolf is only considered to be an endangered species in regions where their populations are low.

They were removed off of the endangered list in 2013. Most documentaries are old. And you can't just believe someone just because they're a teacher.

God I love how people react on wolves, I mean come'on! Think 'bout the cute tigers! They're more endangered! at least the white ones

Filozoa In reply to Cosmic-Eevee [2015-10-04 15:21:14 +0000 UTC]

Honestly there are more tigers (not white ones) in captivity than in the wild. Meanwhile in where I live, wolves are everywhere and breeding like rats.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

The-Grey-Dhole In reply to Cosmic-Eevee [2014-07-21 22:34:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.
Wait...you just pushed one of major don't-ever-go-there buttons.
White tigers are merely a line of disgustingly inbred bengal tigers, they are not a species, they are not even albinos. White tigers are made by crossing to closely related Bengal tigers (such as a father and daughter), the result is a litter of mutated offspring. 4 out of 5 white tiger cubs are too mutated and disfigured, and are put to sleep by their breeders (who sell healthy white tiger cubs for high prices, only for profit). If you look closely, you will see that all white tigers have crossed eyes, a result of inbreeding as well. White tigers also clutter up the Bengal tiger line (which are endangered) and prevent releases into the wild to repopulate or generate a natural breeding population. All in all, white tigers are a very sad subject.
As a side note, all tiger species and subspecies are considered to be either extinct or endangered.

White tigers aren't a separate species- it's just a mutation that arises from inbreeding

Why aren't people worried about tuna? They might not be pretty but they're useful, play an important part in the ecosystem, and are still fished pretty heavily...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cosmic-Eevee In reply to beau-diddly [2014-07-21 15:42:21 +0000 UTC]

But... Tuna ain't dying off are they? ...

I know c: but some colorations are most rare; such as the rhinos... actually most rhinos are endangered

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

beau-diddly In reply to Cosmic-Eevee [2014-08-08 13:11:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, a lot of the more commercially valuable species are. Yellowfin tuna, for example, is considered near threatened by the IUCN and its population is decreasing. The southern blue fin tuna is considered critically endangered and as the population continues to decline, it's unlikely the species will ever recover

Rhino only come in grey, I think There are white rhino and black rhino, of course, but these are different species, not a different colouration
