Not trying to be rude, but wolves are wild animals. They are not kind, and they need to be kept in check otherwise it would pose many issues.

Yes really. Human are far different than wolves, so to compare them is irrelevant.

UrbanSunset In reply to Wolfhowlex [2014-05-24 01:22:26 +0000 UTC]
I don't, that's just foolish. Believing an animal can choose it's own path. Unlike humans they follow instinct: kill, mate, sleep, eat, survive. Humans have empathy, profound emotions, and ability to choose between varying subjects; animals do not. That is why animal rights would be a pointless waste. Now animal welfare, I am for that. By letting an animals population just grow you pose risk to the species itself(I have already stated), it causes inbreeding which causes missed information in the genes. Aka, deformities, mutations, etc. It also prompts a rise in diseases amongst the species. Like mange, etc, etc. It's a much more pleasant death to them to be shot in the head, rather than starve to death. Or have a parasite infiltrate their system, and kill them from the inside out.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
It freaks me out that wolfaboos get angry when people tell them this. If they really love them, they would be excited, happy when they found this out, but no. They go batshit and start making death threats.
I also really like your Balto stamp. I never actually knew that he was only a husky.

If you were a wolf expert, you would know they are not endangered. And how can you be a wolf expert if you can't even SPELL? Spelling is an easy thing you learn in 1st grade, you can't even pull that simple skill off!

Well I understand if you are just learning english, but if it is your first language then I am sorry but your "Imma wulf expert" does NOT fool me.
(yea, because you are too lazy to type a couple extra letters. And it does not look professional, how you ever seen an animal scientist write an essay on an animal using "u" and other text talk?)

Veneficiis In reply to Little-rolling-bean [2014-03-03 15:16:20 +0000 UTC]
I don't consider myself a wolf expert and I just explained you why he wrote that way, but hey, haters gonna hate. Aldoe, yes, I (and lots of other people ) are still studying this language and can do misspells and sometimes being a lazy butt you can write some words with only a letter "cuz'i'm' cooler th u" (just an example, i met once a guy who wrrote that >.<).
NOW back to wolves. I don't want to start a long conversation here (with screams -caps- and insults) but after this stamps i did some research and on some of them I found wolves categorised as endengered specie, while on others I found it as an "least concern" specie (wikipedia). And i trust Wiki.
My conclusion is that some people say the wolves are threatened because the do not read the wright source of information.
Please reply, i'm curious about what you think.

Little-rolling-bean In reply to Veneficiis [2014-03-03 20:53:23 +0000 UTC]
Okay then.
Yes, I underdstand using "u" and that if you are just learning english. I am just sick of first lanuage english spellers not using it correct in debates, I have even seen some say "why do we need english at school we have shortcuts like "lol" and "u"" they bascially want to rewirte the english dictonary with their text talk!
And I make a lot of mistakes too so I am no one to talk.
I think maybe in some places they are endangered. However, in some places they are overpopulated/least concern. It really depends on the website and the people who run it too, some people get their info from out of date books. The Red List says they are least concern. I think they are least concerned since its not hard to find a wolf in the wild, a wildlife filmaker could find one in a day. However it can take a week for a filmmaker to find a tiger or pigmy elephant.
I honestly think nobody is an expert unless they graduated from university on that particular animal or was taught by another expert.

You are wright about the fact that they are endengered in some coutryes (gah... don't know if i spelled it wright, please correct), they are in europe on some places, and i heard the biggest population is in romania. yet here (im from romania) is legat to hunt one ( bassically, it is legal to shot an european buffalo which is endagered, why wouldn't one animal that is least concern on other places of the globe).
But as you say, nobody is an expert except the ones you mentioned ( who graduated from university and has beed taught by another expert).

Yes, so that is what confuses people. Wolves are okay in America and can be hunted, some places they cannot be and are endangered. But really, I wish sites would say what places wolves are endangred and places where they are not instead of saying one and confusing people.

References?
Clearly not the Red List and more likely some outdated books I assume?
If they were endangered, there would be no hunting season, as all kills of the animal taking place where the season would be placed would be considered poaching and a violation of the Endangered Species act. However, they are not endangered and have not been for years now.

Wolves still have the potential to become endangered again, there are no more gray wolves in new york, ect. And when they are taken off the ESL hunters will over-hunt these poor creatures. You keep telling yourself what you need to, but I really pity you, in the way you can not pity animals who are shot. There are MANY other options to control overpopulation such as neuter/spay and release. Im there are many groups willing to do this. but no one will listen.
You people are so numb skulled that you don't open your eyes and take the pro-wolf side into consideration, you are SELFISH and small brained. Go back to school.

There haven't been any gray wolves in New York and other states for centuries, blame settlers for that not modern day hunters. If they are so heavily in danger, the hunting would stop entirely. May I remind you that in the past the American Alligator was considered endangered as well? Now their population is stable and is allowed to be hunted.
They've been off the ESL and currently it is still hunting season for Idaho, Wyoming, and Michigan. Totaling 407 wolves dead from legal tags. Wisconsin and Minnesota where the seasons have been closed, adding 406 more.
813 during the US season so far, Alaska's count will be added once their season ends.
The entirety of Canis Lupus is not endangered, at a population of around 120,000 worldwide.
There are specific subspecies that are endangered, not the species as a whole. The subspecies endemic to the US are not the equivalent to the Gray Wolf (Canis Lupus) which is entirely stable.

Considering that this is the modern day and age with hunting regulations, specific seasons and processes to even acquire licenses and tags in the first place, not anytime soon. Especially because of their previous endangerment that there's still plenty of bleeding hearts for wolves, the only unfortunate bit is that a majority of them on here are misinformed.

With the US being so populated as is, it's a way to balance out the population and keep them from growing beyond the area's ecological limit from the modifications that had occurred from human civilization. It's somewhat of a worse fate for them to resort to killing their own when the natural prey runs out, which we also regulate so they don't grow too overly abundant and outnumber the predators themselves to the point that they start choking the ecosystem.
At this point for their relation to their environment, we have to control the numbers properly unless they'll actually be entirely wiped out around here from these causes.
Example, the wolves from Yellowstone are actually not the native subspecies, the native subspecies lost the territory in Yellowstone due to some of these reasons.
Currently the wolves living there now were considered "experimental and non-essential" to be added while there was a recovery plan for the natives.

Thumbs up to this post-
And to anyone below who are arguing about Red Wolves or specific ones in Araibia or Greece:
Red wolves are a separate species. The author is stating that GREY WOLVES aren't endangered. Two different species...
Yes, some local populations are indeed declining or sparsely populated, but the Grey Wolf as a SPECIES is doing just fine. Reading outdated animal books really does things to some people...

People probably learn in school about how humans nearly hunted wolves to death, and ignore the fact that people who knew what they were doing made knowledge about wolves more wide spread. They also seem to ignore that we brought them out of extinction, and are now creating a problem because people don't seem to know how to solve issues properly.

BayloneRose In reply to ??? [2013-06-22 04:50:49 +0000 UTC]
compared to their former population, Grey wolves are technically nearly gone, but not endangered unless we start hunting them again.
The Grey wolf, also known as the Timber wolf and about a million other names, used to populate the entire northern hemisphere. So they are not endangered but very little compared to what nature intended them to be, which puts them on a fence and if we take them off the endangered list and allow hunters to go crazy, we could lose them.
