Or, hell, anything that's actually fucking endangered (I just thought of those off the top of my head) before you start whinging about "SAVE THE WOLVES SAVE THE WOLVES!!!".
[link]
Although the Grey Wolf still faces some threats, its relatively widespread range and stable population trend mean that the species does not meet, or nearly meet, any of the criteria for the threatened categories. Therefore, it is assessed as Least Concern.
The IUCN Red List lists grey wolves as Least Concern.
And do you know how many vulnerable, endangered, and critical amphibians there are?
Oh wait, they're not cute/"badass" enough. Sorry.
Wolves are not fucking endangered. Unless you can show me solid, unbiased evidence, you are full of shit.
Save the California Condors. You know, something that's actually critically endangered?

Mexican Wolf
Conservation status: Endangered
Ethiopian Wolf (yes, it's a real wolf)
Conservation status: Endangered
Red Wolf
Conservation status: Critically Endangered
But you couldn't care less because wolves are just "stupid dogs", right? Pfft.

Before you flat out say "wolves are not endangered", remember that the Gray Wolf is not the only wolf species in the world.
Gray Wolves are not endangered, however the two other wolf species are. They are called the Red Wolf and the Eastern Wolf. The Red Wolf is critically endangered, while the Eastern Wolf is special concern. The Ethiopian Wolf or Simien Jackal, while technically not really a wolf (it's actually less closely related to wolves than the Golden Jackal is), is also endangered.

Keznen In reply to Keznen [2017-06-02 02:09:05 +0000 UTC]
Oh also, while the Gray Wolf as a species is most definitely least concern, at least one subspecies of Gray Wolf actually IS endangered. The Mexican Wolf is most definitely endangered. Just because the species in general isn't endangered doesn't mean that there aren't subspecies that are endangered.
PS: No, we're not wolfaboos. We love cats over everything. We just don't like generalizations about the conservation status of an animal.

The red wolf was driven to near extinction in the mid 90's, and there are only 100 left in the wild.
If that isn't endangered I don't know what is.

When people are refering to wolves, they're generally speaking about the gray wolf, which isn't endangered at all. Wolfaboos tend to ignore actually endangered wolves such as the Mexican and Ethopian wolf, and focus on the majestifc, fluffy timber wolves of North-America. For this reason, the smaller and more jackal-like Indian and Arabian wolves are also frequently ignored.
And its actually up to debate wether the red wolf is an endangered species or not. Genetic research shows that most red wolves are wolf-coyote hybrids or descendents of one. Hybrids can't be classified as an endangered species.

A Wolfaboo: "A person overly obsessed with wolves; one who equates a human life to that of a wolf; someone who defends and or glorifies wolves killing humans. Often misspelling the plural of wolf as 'wolfs'; Often, will make up lies and propaganda to defend wolves; most of the lies do not hold true when put to actual research."

Well... to be fair... there are subspecies of wolves that are endangered. If I'm not mistaken, the Mexican Wolf became extinct some years ago? I'm not sure?
But yeah, there are types of wolves that are truly on the red zone. The common grey wolf is the one that is.. well, as the name suggests, common.

It's still important to protect wolves, too, so that they don't become endangered, yeah. Because that's why they're not endangered at the moment. Why can't we just be joyful about that fact? I'm just wondering.
But I agree that we should focus on species that are in grave danger to become extinct. To be honest, though, I don't get why you wanted to bring wolves to this. If you don't try to seem high-horsey, I mean.
But hey, visit Finland! Here every other person in the countryside wants to kill all them wolves because they're afraid that they will eat their children :'D

Sorry, was that an attempt to be a little mean to me? I think I didn't quite catch it.
I know why the wolves were brought into this - but that doesn't change the fact that I don't understand why we can't just try to raise awareness about these animals you call "less cute" without attacking those who want to defend these more "mainstream" animals. I perhaps would have made a let's-save-the-condors stamp instead of a wolves-aren't-endangered stamp. But that's just me, ain't it?

Sigh. Yes, indeed, I'm the one getting butthurt. I'm not sure if I'm stating my opinions wrong, or then it's just impossibru for some people to understand that being critical doesn't necessarily mean getting butthurt.
And as for this particular stamp... The description wasn't exactly just about stating a fact, was it? It sounded a little bit hostile to me. Hostility usually doesn't bear fruit. That's how I see it, anyhow...

Vekkulipoika In reply to WolvesSparkle420 [2015-07-15 05:53:32 +0000 UTC]
Isn't that just great?
I believe that at the moment, wolves are indeed quite alright. The fact, that they are not in need of protection right now the same way some currently endangered species are, doesn't mean that we should ignore them just because the species is doing fine right now. While protecting species that are in serious danger to die out as we speak is vital and should be one of our top priorities, surveilling and keeping track of animals like wolves is important, too. We wouldn't wish them to become endangered, would we?
Nature conservation comes in many forms. Different species require different kind of protection. But hey, you know which species totally does not need protection when it comes to numbers? Humans.Β

Vekkulipoika In reply to WolvesSparkle420 [2015-07-16 09:28:59 +0000 UTC]
Ah. Now I see. We have a little different assumptions of what is considered nature preservation. I wasn't intending to say that wolves shouldn't be hunted if their population is growing too rapidly and is therefore messing up natural balance. I believe that controlling the numbers of individuals will help the species as a whole. That is preservation in my book.Β
I do understand your point, don't you worry. I just felt like having a good little discussion with someone. It has been nice talking with you, have a good day! ^-^
