Um, yes they have. There used to nearly NO wolves in america because they were hunted out.
They were endangered in America. Yes. They were.

Oh boo-hoo, they MIGHT become endangered. I don't think that wolves deserve the unnecessary attention they get. Now if you want to hear something sad, think about all the buffaloes that were killed in the 19th century.

I just stated a fact. They at one point HAD been nearly wiped out in america. And if you had read, I NEVER said they "might" become endangered again, you dumbass. Next time READ.
You said "Wolves have never been endangered" and YES they have. I was merely pointing out that you were wrong.

The "no" in all caps kind of implies that you're for preserving them. So yes, I did read, I just assumed. As for the whole wrong thing, of course I am on the first part. The point I'm trying to make is that they really don't need to be overprotected unless they are in real danger like the dhole. Also, it's really just there to aggravate people who put gray wolves above all other species who actually are in danger. As for the second part of the comment, only time will tell.

Actually I'm all for hunting them. They are getting out of control now. But yes they were endangered at one point. Though I say focus on the ones that ARE endangred. There's people saying we shouldn't kill any of yellowstones wolves. That one AREA has hundreds of wolves I believe. Don't think that's natural :\

Well if you're for hunting them, then everything is just fine and dandy with me.
Killing wolves is, in my opinion, completely justifiable. I understand people thinking they're cute, but they can cause serious damage to farms and ranches. For example, I love coyotes because I have a coydog. Every now and then on the ranch, I see a coyote and know almost instinctively that it is necessary to kill it. If I were to let the coyotes run around the ranch, I'd have no livestock left. It's just the way nature works.

Yup. Though killing them "just for shits" like I know some people do, like running them over or hunting deer and shooting a wolf, I think that's wrong. :\

This is so stupid. They're not endangered but that doesn't mean we should hunt them.
It's like being in the middle of the desert and you don't have any more food, then you find some in your backpack and eat it all in one second.

No no no, you don't seem to get it.
They're overpopulating, so if we don't hunt them, there will be WAY too many. it's our way of keeping the earth in check.

Do you ever eat deer?
That's an animal hunted because it's overpopulated.
If we DON'T hunt those animals they will DESTROY their environment.

No. I don't eat deer, I hardly eat any meat and if I do, it's not real meat.
I know that, but what if one day we hunt their species to an appropriate number, then some day something will happen that will wipe them out and it's mostly our fault for culling them?
They wouldn't be overpopulated if we didn't destroy their homes and hunt their food

AnnelieseMoonChild In reply to Ligarththedragon [2011-04-26 19:57:19 +0000 UTC]
We need to focus on NOW not the future, and things that may not happen. And humans are dominant. Wolves are DESTROYING their food sources, they are becoming overpopulated, which means they do not have enough food and are thus STARVING to death. What would you prefer? A nice quick shot to the head, or slowly starving to death?

Ligarththedragon In reply to AnnelieseMoonChild [2011-04-27 14:55:06 +0000 UTC]
I'd prefer we didn't get in the way. I understand wolf hunting and culling, but I don't support it (when I say that, I'm not saying I don't agree to it) Animals have their own ways of culling, that's why they kill each other and other animals.

AnnelieseMoonChild In reply to Ligarththedragon [2011-04-27 16:20:08 +0000 UTC]
The problem is, wolves have no natural predators other than humans. Even mountain lions and bears are chased off by wolf packs. They have no predators thus, are getting out of control.

No they aren't ^^
I don't see why people are making such a fuss over wolves when they've been taken off the list. That usually means that the species is currently in good condition.
Now, how about some animals who need the help?
African White-bellied Pangolins, Mediterranean Monk Seals, Pygmy Alligator Lizards, White-winged Nightjars, they're only a few examples of the thousands of other animals on that enormous list of endangered species. Wolves are off pretty good right now, so why not focus on the other animals who need it?

People need to stop freaking out over whether gray wolves are endangered or not.
Certain populations ARE endangered. And those populations are the ones that need to be protected. Without them, the top predator, the ecosystem will be in very big trouble.

AnnelieseMoonChild In reply to wickedlovelyfaery [2011-04-13 06:00:41 +0000 UTC]
Just saying, a bear or mountain lion can whoop a wolfs ass. <.< There is no "top predator"

SiriuslyLupine03 In reply to AnnelieseMoonChild [2011-05-03 05:44:51 +0000 UTC]
Of course a bear or a mountain lion- heck, even a regular lion, could take down a wolf. No question about it! That doesn't mean the wolf, in it's own ecosystem, can't be top predator. Top predators exist, they just differ according to the ecosystem. For example in a marine ecosystem, sharks would be considered the top predator because nothing eats the shark but the shark can eat everything.

AnnelieseMoonChild In reply to SiriuslyLupine03 [2011-05-03 05:56:26 +0000 UTC]
Nope. Octopus eat sharks.

SiriuslyLupine03 In reply to AnnelieseMoonChild [2011-05-03 20:52:51 +0000 UTC]
I've never heard of it, but it's probably happened before. However, shark isn't part of their diet. Octopi tend to eat small crabs, scallops, crustaceans, and in some cases, other octopi. The only real known predator of sharks are humans- but humans don't live in the ocean, so sharks remain the top predator of the marine ecosystem.

AnnelieseMoonChild In reply to SiriuslyLupine03 [2011-05-03 20:56:53 +0000 UTC]
Or at least dang close to it
They're barely ever eaten. Must be a good life being a shark.
You know, until someone drags you out of your home, cuts off your fins and then throws you back into the ocean.

THE TRUTH. YESSS.
I birds of prey, though. Ravens/Crows and Condors especially. Definitely better than wolves.
Not to mention rattlesnake hunts or whatever it's called. Some kid was showing off some rattlesnake boots he got when I was 7 and still in my snake phase, and I nearly threw up.
Sometimes I wonder where all the wolf-loving started.... (because when comes to canines, Coyote is a bit better in my opinion. Maybe I've heard one too many trickster tales. XP) Wolves don't eat you though. They're cowards.
Sorry this is kind of a useless comment...

They haven't been vulnerable since '94 or '95. I don't know when they were endangered, because the IUCN redlist only goes to 1982 (and they were vulnerable then, not endangered).
