What if the Dominican Republic had been annexed in 1869 within Grant's first year in office? The outcome would have changed the course of history in the region. In the Slavia Verse, Grant successful gets the Treaty of Annexation passed in Congress, thus the US annexes the Dominican Republic. It would eventually gain statehood in 1898 and would develop alongside the US. Haiti would find itself sharing a border with a powerful nation, leading to the eventual occupation of the island during the late 19th century to early 20th century.
