„Bist du ganz sicher?“

„Ich bin mir ganz sicher.“

I know little more than nothing about German, but apparently "sicher" can mean safe as well as certain, which I thought was pretty neat.

I stepped away from the wall and picked up the trunk, and I was halfway down the ladder before turning back and looking at the place I had loved so much. “Tell everyone I said hi, ok? Especially Hanna. I’ll see you soon, I promise.”
I felt my feet hit the ground, and my shoulders felt straighter. There was still a gaping wound in my chest; there always would be. No one can be whole after that. But I was still here: only the living can patch up the punctures that the dead have left.
"Did you say something?"
I jumped, but relaxed when I saw Saul standing behind me. He began to bumble, "I'm sorry, I saw you walking out here an I just wanted to-"
I reached out and took his hand in mine, and he fell silent, our eyes meeting. "Are you sure?" He stammered.
I looked away from him for a moment, looking up at the attic door. I felt something stir inside me, and I smiled. I squeezed Saul's hand tighter, and pushed the ladder back into the attic, closing the door. Then, I leaned forward and I kissed my best friend, long and hard. At first, he seemed surprised, but after a moment his lips moved with mine and he pulled me in closer.
When we finished, I looked up at him. “I’m sure.”
