Description
Varug and Myre continuously travel through all sorts of landscapes without a rest and to find something they are looking for but they don't know what it is.Another conceptual quick work and practice with depth. *sigh* Will I be ever pleased?
3 hours, Photoshop.
This is a concept. The characters are not meant to be in perfect shape. XD

I would so love to make a video game of this.... Now, this is some nuclear art....

I love how the low fog in the top right seems to get swept up into a whirl of clouds in the sky.

Nice work I like the vast space and really bold sun lighting on the mountains and in the sky/atmosphere. It seems quite peaceful to me....

The colors in this are awesome! And I think you are definitely improving with the sense of scale. The cliff in the foreground is very nicely done in contrast to the lighter background which really helps with that. But as someone said, because of the darkness of the sky and the light source - as well as the less muted colors in the distance - it does feel like it's in a cave. You're on the right track with the highlights fading a bit as the mountains recede from the light source.
I'm no expert on doing landscapes so if you find that I'm in no position to offer advice then please disregard this: I would try muting the colors in the distance a bit more - the darks should be less dark and the lights less light. Generally - of course it may be different depending on where the sun is, clouds, terrain, atmosphere, etc. But usually if you look into the far distance you will notice how colors gradually begin to soften; as if someone was turning down the contrast like you might in Photoshop. :3 And if you are very far away, they may hardly be visible - as if through a haze. I'm sure you know about atmospheric distortion. Details and edges are also a bit more smudged and seem more broad in some places. Some more than others. I would try going over some of the details on the mountains, such as where the light hits their sides, and blurring it a little. Particularly on those in the farthest from the figures. You could also try adding a few more vague mountains in the distance to aid in the feeling of depth.
I, uh, hope I don't seem too preachy. I know you said it was only a concept so I may have misunderstood your intention with this picture. Please don't hate me. :<

I think it's gorgeous, although I do understand your dissatisfaction of not feeling the 'depth' of the concept. But for a three hour job, this is simply fantastic when it comes to detail and color, especially the rock Varug and Myre are perched on.
Back to the concept, when I look at it, it kinda reminds me of a giant 'hollow' cave. Not that the drawing is empty, perceptively speaking, but that's just the sensation I'm getting. Still, it's a beautiful picture and it reflects great artistic skill on your part, so don't get mad at me. Eep.
