Description ^^uuuhghhh this took me like three hours... at the end of it I didn't have the energy to line it and I was losing motivation- so I kept it as a sketch and tried to focus on the general details. It turned out a bit better than I thought it would, but there's still a lot to improve on with my backgrounds. I plan on doing a few more practices like this soon, but I'll probably leave them as sketches since they don't get all muddy that way.

HOLY

THIS THING IS AWESOME!

The leaves perfectly fall onto the surface of the water, and you even show where the water is on top of the leaves.

The way all these perfectly natural features blend together into one beautiful deviation... I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!

Just work on the depth, and It's downright perfect.

Great practice painting! I Love your color use and the reflection of the light on the water looks so magical! The subtle shapes under the water are also a very nice touch. They add an extra dimension to the water. You could have drawn a bit more of them even. I also love the texture of the leaves and the light reflecting on the grass and trees. The whole painting has a very dark but peaceful atmosphere like a forest at night. Dark enough to make it mysterious but just bright enough to see everything.

You succeeded very well in creating depth in this painting. For example by making the trees in the far back less refined than the outlined trees in the center. And also by making the creek brighter in the foreground than in the back. However, due to the perspective the creek should be a lot wider in the foreground than in the back. It would only look even when viewed directly from above. Now it looks like the stream gets wide towards the back. Here is a reference of a similar view: www.freshfromflorida.com/var/e…

Overall this was a very nice study though. You especially captured the atmosphere very well. Which is one of the most important things!

hi! before i'm going to critique your art, i really like the way you did the lighting on the trees and in the water, that makes the scene more believable and realistic! There's also a difference between fore, mid and background which is quite advanced, actually! (sorry for bad grammar or English, i'm a foreigner)

So, i think the amount of detail is good, but it could be more detailed on the trees. The leaves and the grass have been done well, and the variation of colour in the mud makes sense. However, it may be better to get rid of all the lineart, and work with shapes, rather dan confined spaces.Ā

The water in the back should also be lighter, because the tree behind it is also lightened. The water there may be in the shadows, but then the tree on the left should also be part in the shadows. The branches of the tree in the foreground should be darker to simulate depth. The values of this piece could be stronger. For the rest of it, the colours are a bit muddy, even for nighttime. Try to pick the colours in a less gray area of the colorwheel to make the leaves and trees stand out more.Ā

Thank you for reading my critique! I hope this will help you on your art journey. Backgrounds are mainly focused on perspective, values and composition. If you learn those fundamentals, i think you will come very far with it!Ā

We can take turns doing backgrounds, to make it easier on ourselves 0u0
I do like your style! I usually don't line mine though so I can get it done faster
