AWESOME! Granted, considering she gets the Star Wars Severed Limb treatment there.

Nico will be a part of the all-female avengers known as the A-force.

An amazing piece of art of one of my favourite characters! I love the perspective and lighting on the overcoat, and the colours are simply stunning - especially the effects around the staff and hand.
While I don't like Arena, I gotta admit the new arm is pretty badass.

thanks
well i guess many people dislike arena, simply because it's a cheap copy of the hunger games, which wasn't really good to begin with.

I know pretty much nothing about the character, but this is a great image.

Lovely art. Dynamic, lovely colors, and a pose which screams "Power".
Sadly, it's of the inferior version of that particular type of Nico story. Joss Whedon pulled the "Separate Nico from her friends, put her through a hellish experience, from which she rises from like a bat out of hell more powerful and slightly darker than before, complete with a change in staff shape" much better in his Runaways run (#25-30 of vol. 2) than the Arena version in both Narrative as well as visual design. Well, except the glove. Gotta love the power glove. It's so bad. I love your work, but it just brings that to the forefront of my mind, and I don't want to rant (too late).

well, large parts of what marvel does suck at the moment, so i'm happy about every tiny bit of content that is at least halfway okay!

I honestly have very high standards, so even the fluttering of competence Arena displays do little to assuage me. Each death scene has so far failed for me in terms of storytelling, and the so-called intelligent villains never cease to amaze me with their amazing stupidity. I've taken to rooting out a "Stupid Apex Moment" for every issue she appears in.
But, hey, at least some people are enjoying it. I just wish it was better constructed for them to really go into it.

the thing that bothers me most about this storyline is that this whole place is made of tech and while apex is a technopath, she's not even able to even recognize that tech is used at all.
also, killing people off is starting to irritate me...in the last few years, marvel kept killing so many characters that it is far beyond the point of being an interesting plot device...it's just become cheap, i think.

That, for me, was Stupid Apex moment #1
I'm not so turned off by death, but all that matters for me is that it's done well and fully, properly mourned. My two rules are this: either go out like a badass, or go out like an opera tenor. Anything less just isn't interesting. The only third option is a true Tomino-esque sudden shock. Which gets every other character (or a lot of the other characters) all worked up and dramatic about it.
I mean, take Kid Briton's death. Imagine if, instead of decapitation, the blade imeddedd in his gut. He smacks Anachronism away and then looks down at the blade. And laughs in shock and disbelief. He then got a few panels of going blurry in vision and saying that this is impossible. Talking to the others about how he can't be hurt like this because of all he's done, because he's invulnerable. Then he pulls the ax out saying it's nothing--nothing! And his organs spill out, his eyes roll up and he drops dead. That has true build up. That has true power. AND it's visually interesting.

no matter how interesting a death may be built up (look ultimate spider-man, that was really a death worthy of a hero), if it is done too often, it's losing any meaning.
just look at the red skull, thor, cable, loki, or every other character that died within the past few years...most of them come back a couple of months later, anyway.
and even if they don't, they seem to be killing off anyone, just to get their sales up and it's been used so damn often, that it's become totally boring...it seems like the writers forgot how to write an interesting story without killing people.
(and i'm not even starting about them giving a shit about continuity when bringing characters back all of a sudden)

Can't argue with that sentiment. Overexposure ruins a lot of things.
It certainly killed the majority of my interest in Wolverine

Agreed. Avengers Arena though not great is actually one of the better storylines this season.
