So much time off from drawing, and so many cobwebs to shake. Let's get to it.

The theme for last week's Third Rail Design Lab Art Jam [link] was "Magic," and whereas my brain automatically defaults to Zatanna when I hear that, I've already done everyone's favorite backward linguist twice (Here: [link] and here: [link] ). So, next up for me - and keeping with the fishnets, apparently - is Marvel's Nico Minoru [link] from The Runaways. A friend turned me on to the Brian K Vaughn-created series a few years ago. Great concept (the unwitting children of a group of supervillains known as the Pride band together and... well, run away) and great characters, with Nico being my - and many people's - personal favorite.

Nico summons her "Staff of One" (which enables her to cast a spell exactly once - bad things happen if she repeats herself) by making herself bleed. So I was interested in portraying her with that sort of vulnerability one would have if you literally had to bleed for your craft. She's the de facto team leader, but still learning the role and finding her confidence along the way. And that makes for a great read.
