I haven't seen this yet but I want to. I remember it used to take about a year to get the VHS of a movie so waiting 5 months doesn't really bother me. It was much better for when I couldn't go see The Dark Knight Rises, Amazing Spider-Man or Avengers though I didn't have to wait so long to be able to watch them.

i really hate waiting so long, because every time i've seen a good movie, i'd like to buy the dvd on the way out of the theatre already

I'm sure some places have people that do that. It may be considered piracy & a pretty ballsy move but someone's probably willing to try it

nah, i want a real dvd, not some cheap copy that has been filmed with a cam in the theatre...i mean in theory it should be entirely possible to release a movie in theatres and on dvd/download/whatever at the same time, so i really don't understand why we have to wait almost half a year...i mean why don't we get it as soon as it's out of the theatres?

I can see why they don't do it. If they released a DVD/digital download at the same time there's not much of an incentive to go watch it in a cinema. That'll hurt the cinema's profits in the long run so they make us wait. Those that really want to see it will go to theatres & those not bothered will pick it up when they feel like it. Some will still go to cinemas to watch it but most don't really care about the experience unless of course there's stuff like Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow. I gladly pay to see that

still they could release it as soon as it's out of the cinemas, but it usually takes some months longer...

I think they just want to give cinemas a chance. They can probably drop it down to around 2 months after the release since by then most people will have seen it if they really want to. Those really interested in a movie have usually seen it within a month of release anyway so that just means an extra month for the few that haven't then the DVD is released.

i don't know how they handle it where you live, but here a movie usually stays in cinemas for around 2 months and then it's gone, so after that the cinemas wouldn't lose any money if they released it on dvd directly after that happened

MadMonkeyDane In reply to alecyl [2013-05-28 13:03:47 +0000 UTC]

Over here it differs by cinema. I've seen some lose it after a couple of months & others still showing a movie long after it's on DVD. Generally they stop showing it about a month before the DVD release though

so, then it's the fault of your cinemas!
