Alright, this is a drawing that a DeviantArt user requested from me, who asked me to draw one of his favorite characters from the series “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic”, which also, by chance, happens to be one of my favorite characters more than anything because of his carefree personality, but at the same time he’s funny and entertaining. So, as I said, the character in question that he asked me to draw is none other than Discord, a spirit best known for being the entity of chaos, representing chaos and disharmony among ponies. Discord is a character first introduced in the first episode of the second season “The Return of Harmony, Part 1” as the main antagonist and is defeated in the episode “The Return of Harmony, Part 2”. He was later reformed in the third season episode, “Patience and Friendship”, so that his magic could be used for good thanks to Fluttershy who helps him reform by orders of Princess Celestia. In his first appearance, Teacher Cheerilee names him "A Draconequus" (horse-dragon). He has the head of a pony, and a body made of all kinds of other animal parts. Discord is also used in the My Little Pony comics, but in that case Discord is half Horse and half Dragon, that is, in the My Little Pony comics he is a "normal Draconequus".
The word "draconequs" is composed of the Latin "draco" or Greek "drakon", and the Latin "equus", which means "dragon-horse". Discord is technically a chimera, as he is made up of the body parts of different animals, but this term is not used in the series. His head is horse-like, very different from other ponies' head styles, although Cheerilee describes him as having a "pony head". He has a deer's antler on the right, a blue goat's horn on the left, a long tusk, some of different sizes, a snake's tongue, a goat's beard, and bushy white eyebrows. He has the right claw of a lion, the left claw of an eagle, the right leg of a lizard, and the left leg of a goat. Additionally, he has a right wing of a bat, a left wing of a Pegasus, the mane of a horse and a tail of a dragon-snake with a white puff at the end of it. The shape of his body resembles that of a snake. Discord bears a resemblance to a Chinese dragon, a creature that was often depicted with a snake-like body, facial hair, feline claws, and antlers.
Discord is arrogant and conceited, such as when he underestimated the ponies' ability to restore their friendship and wield the Elements of Harmony. Despite having a penchant for chaos, he can become easily upset if things do not go according to his plan, such as when he becomes impatient at not being able to corrupt Fluttershy as easily as the other ponies. In “Patience and Friendship”, Discord states that he has never had a friend. He appears to be touched by Fluttershy when she mentions being his friend, and it's that glimpse of genuine friendship that makes him undo the unnecessary chaos he's wrought. He declares at the end of the episode that he will use his magic only for good from now on... "Most of the time." Since then he has kept his chaotic tendencies to a minimum, although he is more than willing to cause harm whenever he pleases. He is seen indirectly helping the wielders of the elements in defeating the seeds of plunder, which he himself planted long ago, in an attempt to defeat the Royal Sisters. Even after the one force that is most capable of defeating him is gone, he keeps his word to Celestia and does not create any fuss, and is shown to be more easily intimidated by Fluttershy. In “The Return of Harmony Part 1 and Part 2”, Discord is shown to be a trickster, malicious, and manipulator who effortlessly pranks his targets through the use of his powerful magic, illusions, and hypnotism, with little to no regard for his victims. He has a sense of spectacle and drama, and prefers to be playful towards his victims before getting down to business, as seen when he taunts and talks to Celestia and the six main ponies in Canterlot Tower. He laughs and is amused by his magical mayhem, mostly at the expense of others. Among other things, Discord turns the ponies "against each other", making Twilight miserable and depressed, and generally making ridiculous and grotesque things happen.
A thousand years ago, before Luna and Celestia ruled Equestria and discovered the elements of harmony, Discord ruled Equestria in chaos, torturing all pony races, but Princess Celestia and Princess Luna with the elements of harmony defeated Discord, turning him into a stone statue to put an end to his stormy reign.
A thousand years later, once he is freed again, because Luna and Celestia no longer control the elements (because they were no longer connected), so Twilight Sparkle and her friends are called to the castle in Canterlot to deliver the elements and defeat Discord, but when they open the vault where they were hidden in a chest with diamonds, there was nothing. And at that moment Discord appears in the stained glass windows of the castle, revealing that he was the one who took the elements, and to find them they had to solve a riddle, but all of this was a trap set by Discord to guide the ponies to a labyrinth, in order to separate and corrupt them, managing to corrupt Twilight Sparkle's friends and being about to win in his debut episode, but when Twilight reads all the correspondence that Princess Celestia sent her, managing to recover her spirits and reform her friends so that together with the power of friendship, they manage to defeat Discord, turning him back into a stone statue.
In the tenth episode of the third season, Princess Celestia entrusts Fluttershy with reforming Discord, since she believes that his powers could be used for good and so, when Twilight and her friends free Discord, at first, Discord mocked Fluttershy, thinking she was weak enough to turn him into a good spirit, and took advantage of her and Angel, with whom he apparently had a small rivalry. But then Fluttershy calls him friend, that could have been a sign that Discord was going to be a good spirit. Although Fluttershy's other friends begin to doubt him.
Later, Discord has other appearances during the series, helping Twilight Sparkle and her friends save Equestria, although without leaving aside his taste for chaos and disorder, but to a lesser extent and now he gives more importance to the friendship he has with the ponies and even befriends Trixie, Starlight Glimmer and Thorax and teams up with them when Queen Chrysalis takes the princesses, Twilight Sparkle and her friends out of action.
The truth is that although at first Discord was bad and caused several disasters and chaos in Equestria, I liked him because of his funny and charismatic personality, although a little shameless, but without a doubt, Discord seems to me to be one of the funniest characters in the series along with Pinkie Pie and he also seems to me to be one of the most intelligent characters in the series along with Twilight Sparkle, because he was about to beat Twilight and her friends in his first appearance and if he had not been so conceited and proud, he could have won but he got carried away by his egocentrism and ended up being defeated, but I like that my favorite pony, Fluttershy, managed to reform him because she was the only one who believed that Discord could change and be good and even though Discord was reformed, I still like him very much and he reminds a bit of the Genie from Aladdin, since both are magical beings that help the protagonists of their respective stories and both are very funny and serve as the comic relief of the story and without a doubt, Discord is one of the reasons why I really enjoy this series.
Well, I hope that the person who requested the drawing liked it, without a doubt the most difficult thing to draw about Discord has been his body and his horns, but I worked hard to make it look good and remember that every day, I make every effort to ensure that my drawings turn out better and that the requests are to your liking.
