Description Β©2008 Alexander Nail. Do not use this image in any fashion without my prior permission

One of the most miserable days on Skye ended with patches of sunlight and the obvious hope of rainbows. Guy and I went in search of the perfect shot in the car. You might want to call it "rainbow chasing", which I guess is the slightly hippie version of storm chasing.

Well done to Guy for driving fast enough to get us to a hopeful location. When we were arrived we were ahead of the clouds but only a very faint rainbow was visable. Without wellies it would have been hard to get this one. I had to run about 100 meters through bog to get to a veiw of this small collection of trees which I had seen from the road.

My only slight reservation with this image is that the trees on the right touch the rainbow. I made that decision in order to avoid inclusion of a rather large conifer which threw the shot completely. I only just had time to recompose without it before the moment had gone. It would have been nice to include the entire double rainbow, but that would have meant firstly including the conifer and secondly shooting a vertical pano of 4 or 5 shots which, as it turned out, I didnt have time to do after this shot.

The rainbow lasted only 3 or 4 minutes but it was the second most spectacular I can remember. This shot illustrates Alexander's Dark Band quite well and you can just make out supernumeraries at the top, which appeared much clearer at the time.

GΓ©ant ! You have to be at the right place at the right time !
I would love to se"e it in a better def' but I guess you fear the art steal ?

That's one of the reason why he doesn't have it high resolution. If he wants it high resolution, he should have implanted a watermark inside the photograph so no one would steal it.

Nevertheless, I would love to buy a print / bigger def' of this. Maybe adding a different pixel somewhere could prevent art steal, or something ?

A watermark on the bottom right corner and a large resolution would be better. As long as that person has a watermark on their photo, they should have no trouble if their art is stolen. Because the person that downloads the photo can't remove the watermark at all, even if they put a brush over it to make it look like it's not there.

Rainbows ARE tricky with how fast they can fade on you, making a capture of a partial one an accomplishment, but THIS? BEAUTIFUL take here !

no, that can not be. you have expirience with competitions? the image is perfect. the panorama format fits to the subject, the central perspective too. the trees are very interesting. the contrast feeling (deepth) is excellent and i guess the photo is sharp. all in all its very exciting. so why it shold not win a contest?

I actually quite like those little touches from the trees on the right ... almost as if they are reaching out for the pot of gold?

Very beautiful rainbow and yes the double would have been cool - but I doubt you would have bettered the intensity of the lighting on those pale coloured tree trunks. The mix of dead and live trees makes for additional interest too.
