Description
©2008 Alexander Nail. Do not use this image in any fashion without my prior permissionOne of the most miserable days on Skye ended with patches of sunlight and the obvious hope of rainbows. Guy and I went in search of the perfect shot in the car. You might want to call it "rainbow chasing", which I guess is the slightly hippie version of storm chasing.
Well done to Guy for driving fast enough to get us to a hopeful location. When we were arrived we were ahead of the clouds but only a very faint rainbow was visable. Without wellies it would have been hard to get this one. I had to run about 100 meters through bog to get to a veiw of this small collection of trees which I had seen from the road.
My only slight reservation with this image is that the trees on the right touch the rainbow. I made that decision in order to avoid inclusion of a rather large conifer which threw the shot completely. I only just had time to recompose without it before the moment had gone. It would have been nice to include the entire double rainbow, but that would have meant firstly including the conifer and secondly shooting a vertical pano of 4 or 5 shots which, as it turned out, I didnt have time to do after this shot.
The rainbow lasted only 3 or 4 minutes but it was the second most spectacular I can remember. This shot illustrates Alexander's Dark Band quite well and you can just make out supernumeraries at the top, which appeared much clearer at the time.

The Rainbow is the Earth's flag. Rainbows in the future will be more spectacular than this, but this is breathtaking, nonetheless.
Thank You!

That was a good 100 meter run mate. Come anywhere Bolts world record...I know I would for such a scene.
I actually have these trees about 15 minutes drive and you inspire me to rainbow hunt

I've heard about how much better natural framing can make a shot, but I never though that it could be this awesome!
In most framed shots the object framed is the one is focus, but in this I feel that both the trees and the frame itself is equally awesome. Just a perfect shot really (Except from the trees on the right, but you said that yourself )

Holy crap, your a lucky duck...Ive got a panoramic of a double rainbow from my arizona vacation waiting for me to get it on dA....but your still wins from mine...the second rainbow in my shot isnt hardly visible, and the landscape below it is a bar...a junkyard...a powerplant...and some distant mountain that are kinda nice.. XD
This is one hell of a shot.

Skye, as in.. the Isle of Skye? If so, awesome mate! I have family up there, and my older brothers used to live, and work there.
I will be visiting here very soon, in October I think, and I cannot wait!!
This is just another beautiful shot, perfect width with all of the rainbow in the frame, and the way it frames the trees in a bubble like way is just even better! Absolutely brilliant Alex, really well done.

is there any other Skye
It really is a spectacular place, if a little unforgiving! It rained on us for most of the week, but the moments of good light were amazing.
Thanks
Alex

That's a very true point, haha, silly me! Gotta wait for the right lighting, and you sure did, and caught it well.
