Description
I saw the body frame of the original... and it all just started falling in place. I spent about 10 hours in total, working sometimes pixel to pixel as I added and changed little bits here and there. I hope you all enjoy!! And yes, it is inspired by the REF Garfish from Robotech: New Generation, and Shadow Chronicles.Original from: Chronicles of Man.

So is this your work? I'm going to assume so I don't know the story behind it but I'll look at in 'artistically' and as a 'treky' lol.
I think it would be nice to be able to see it closer but I understand not wanting to upload a bigger image for copying cats. So I can't see the many many details that you obviously spent a lot of time on. I like the shape a lot are you copying from a game or movie? It's well balanced as a design. I think the one thing it's lacking is some texture. Even slick spaceships have texture and material differences here and there..look at the millennium falcon! It's covered in grit...which makes it realer.
Ok I know you can stylized things so maybe that's what you are aiming for. In that case it's cool how it is. I think you could add a few more cast shadows to show the changes in elevation/where one part meets an other there is an edge that casts a shadow- it can look cool to exaggerate that a little more

Some time ago I cam across a pair of artists (Chronicles of Man, and HandogManos), who introduced me to a sort of theoretical Empire building/micro- & macro- management game they play with one and other. One of the things they do for this game is design much of their own technology, sciences, and culture, amongst which these beautiful ships originally emerged. On my eye due to my eye injuries I am unable to do art anymore. Back in the day I used to custom kitbash and modified figures, both as custom orders, gifts for friends, and just for fun. But sadly my days of modifying and painting are over. However I do seem to have found a knack for being able to edit these amazing original pieces and give them sort of my own appeal to them.
Personally? Since I am something of a copy-cat myself, I don't mind people downloading my work and doing the same. I am a fan of seeing what artistic spin people can put on things I have done. That's mostly how I critique on the groups I am in - I mean whats the point of asking for a critique if you aren't going to allow people to put on your shoes and see if they can dance any better or different? ^_^ I'll see about turning on the size zoom. Thought I had done that already but I guess not. Need to remember to upload some of the photos of my figures, and ask for critique on them. When I saw the original ship that was used here, it immediately made me think of an anime I grew up watching (and became sort of one of the great loves and focuses of my life; Robotech).... or at least I saw the potential for it to become a ship that reminded me of a ship from Robotech (The REF Garfish class pre09.deviantart.net/ff19/th/p…). So I set about chopping and modding it the same way I would a figurine, and before long this is what I ended up with as the finished product ^_^
This images is mainly for ID and Diagnostic purposes. I will eventually get in to playing with texture and lighting more as I learn those skills, but this is really just me flexing some basic amateur creativity due in part to boredom, LOL. I will keep all your ideas on a sticky though for my WACOM board. And thank you for the links! I remember and learn more from direct visual context then simple mouth-to-ear learning. In this case though is going to be lighting first I think, and then puzzle out how to do the grit next.

Oh I hadn't thought of that, at least you can still modify art that's cool. Yeah you should upload your figurines! And def make it easier to zoom in to your drawings, the whole point of detail is to be able to see it right
Your wacom board? Do you have a tablet? I am thinking of buying one but can't decide which one, the wacom cintiq 13hd or the ugee hk1560
I've only had the wacom pen and touch - non monitor tablet...which is a very big step down so it's hard to choose. If you have any experience with tablets I would like to know all about it!
So yeah the lighting is important but don't forget the texture gives it grip, otherwise there is a danger of it looking like a digital gradient slug in space...sorry I don't mean it looks like that now, just that it is dangerous not putting any texture lol...I've done this so many times! And I'm a beginner with digital art so I'm usually stuck in the slug for ages if not always

Done, Done, Done... going to need to retake the photos of the figures again so its at a better resolution and using better light, but I will put the old ones up for people to digest a little.
I have a Bamboo by WACOM? Very simple, very basic, but useful. Especially when editing, the software it comes with alone makes it worth its weight in usefulness. But, and I stress the but, if I was going to invest ina talet? I'd go with this badboy., www.iskn.co/la-slate/ Absolutely worth its weight... in gold! Gah!! I want one so bad, LoL. Actually I want 2 so I can give one to my best friend. Shes a great artist and definatly deserves a professional tool of the trade. Not that the tablet she has now is bad...
LoL, you are forgiven - I like slugs!

Oh I have a wacom bamboo pen and touch as well, it works pretty well too but yeah really simple. WOw that's really cool, that tablet I mean...never heard of it. Does it work like a wacom monitor ? it's so much cheaper!

I have an issue with that tablet - the whole 3 inches above the tablet-pickup thing? Messes up so many images for me that I actually tossed it out my window once in frustration, LoL - no joke? Hit a duck in the yard with It, LoL.
The basic features I think are just like a WACOM Screen. Shannon - ObsessedPerfection - who does a lot of art for my book (shes also my best friend) turned me on to it back on my birthday last year, something to get me to save some money, work for and buy, I guess. She got me though, cause I've been pinching pennies when I can got it... not that I am getting anywhere, LoL. I have 2 commissions on the table, plus 2 more ready to be ordered, a third we are postulating turning over to you to do one of those beautiful painted vista's you do... well, let's just say I am looking for new sources of revenue! LoL.

SO...here I go again...
My tablet doesn't have that problem, have you tried messing with the settings?poor duck haha!
Are you planning on getting a monitor tablet too?
Are you commissioning people or are they commissioning you? Sorry I never understand how to use that word.
Do you mean "we" by you and your gaming friends? I don't paint vistas though, I mean landscapes...do you just mean drawings? lol sorry. Let me know what you are interested in cause I've never done a commission so I'm not demanding really encouraging that you even considered me though so thanks!

That duck had it coming... I guess he should have: ducked! LOL.... sorry, that was horrible, anyway, yeah tinkered with it but it refuses to behave.
If I can save up the money before a newer, better one comes out then yes, probably. I just got in to some other projects to make some pocket money. Enough to maybe upgrade my computer before it becomes a dinosaur. Computers aren't getting cheaper, they just keep thinking paying people more money will fix the problem - as if. And its a case of both, being commissioned, and commissioning others. I myself am a writer, mostly of fiction but I am also a trained chef with some experience under many hats, and quite unique to my views on life I guess. I am also a very intelligent and well learned person, so it tends to give people some confidence when they trade me for something. On the flip I hire artist, like those of your skill level, to do art for my book that I could never ever do as well as they do. So sometimes they cut me a break in price in exchange for me writing them something, or getting a credit in the books I am writing, even though they are never going to be officially licensed books. I also let artist who work with me have freedoms with their work that other paying customers wouldn't like putting their work in their portfolio, or letting them sell prints here on DA despite having been done for other purposes.
And sorry, was being artistic and weird this morning - actually it was some of the work I said you should do as tats: in the tat/artist community around here they call it a "vista" when its a tat big enough to be a mural across someones back. And why shouldn't you be encouraged? You have great potential as an artist, you deserve to be noticed, don't sell yourself short ^_^
There is a piece near and dear to my heart I wanted done, that's been on hold while my medical situation is sorted out. It was supposed to be the tat for my own back. There is also the tat I wanted painted or drawn or whatever, for the main character in all the stuff I RP. Do you have any experience doing things more tribal?
