Hmm for some reason the lines on the lower beak seem a bit random to me design-wise.
Also all the poses have a fist clenched in front of the chest with the elbow out.
I enjoy the colour scheme however.

I noticed in some illustrations the legs are bent backwards like a normal rooster's, but at other times they aren't like in the crouching pose here. I do realize to keep the bent backwards legs would limit the amount of identifiable poses though, but how do you feel about that kind of thing from a design perspective?

I've talked to a lot of animators about this. Bird characters can be tricky because the bend in their legs looks like their knees from a design point of view, when in actuality they are much higher up. When working with anthropomorphic birds, many designers will often cheat here, and have the "knees" bend in the wrong direction so that the poses are more human and recognizable. A lot of disney movies do this (Robin Hood being a good example). It is technically cheating, but it is possible to get away with, as it can lead to more expressive poses. Whether or not it is effective here is up for viewers to decide. I actually did variations on these poses where the legs bent in the proper direction, and I found these poses to be less effective.

Oh yes I certainly know what you mean by having them go that way just to be recognizable. As well as just plain more versatile for a buncha poses! As for me, I personally get bent out of shape if I feel like I have to form the character differently like that, and I find it weird when I see it! But I understand why people do this, it's like you said. So I guess it really is fine either way.
