This is simply amazing, from the Texture on the ground all the way to the lighting of figures and surroundings. Very dramatic scene. Suprised this has only been viewed 2,649 times. You probably dont care though. This is amazing, very nice to look at. Definelty caught my eye. haha!

That is one awesome piece. What I can't get over is how good your gesture-work is, especially the hands. You can really convey emotion so well, and your figures always have so much energy. Those statues in the back are more "alive" than anything I've ever drawn! The lighting is awesome; I don't know how you even go about figuring out the shadows in a scene like that!

Thanks so much! J. Scott Campbell once told me that two things he always focused closely on were faces and hands so I try to do the same

Beautifull work.

P.S. For some reason Osiris face reminds me of the actor who played "the Red Mist" in Kick Ass.

loving the color palette on this one Alex! Great job.

Question: Are you doing these painting using a Cintiq or is this traditional painting enhanced w/ PS?

AlexGarner In reply to CarlosMontanez [2010-05-14 17:23:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I use PS on a Cintiq

CarlosMontanez In reply to AlexGarner [2010-05-14 20:13:38 +0000 UTC]

Gotcha. i have one also but im still very far off from where your skill level is at with it.

Ive been told that really you should have a grasp on traditional painting first. I mostly do inkwork so im halfway there in terms of lighting a scene but the coloring part i need more practice on. Any suggestions?

AlexGarner In reply to CarlosMontanez [2010-05-14 23:29:55 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, for me it's all about practice and experimentation. I've produced a lot of poorly colored pieces and I'm still working on improving my palette. My advice would be to study and deconstruct your favorite artists to try and understand their process. For instance, I personally study a lot of Craig Mullin's work.

CarlosMontanez In reply to AlexGarner [2010-05-17 16:22:50 +0000 UTC]

sounds like a plan... i did what you suggested with the inking studying Scott Williams, You, Tim Townsend and others. i hope i can do the same with the digital painting as well. I do have a Cintiq 21Ux so thats a start but the tools dont matter much if you just dont get it. Anyways thank you so much for taking the time to respond. God Bless... Carlos.
