Thought this was made by Franzetta himself at first. Great job!

Nice pencil, it's still a bit loose, and that's what makes it live .. New F&I film in the works hope they don't Skrew it up .. I know Frank wanted to do it live, but now he's passed, who knows ..Β

Thanks!! I always make an effort to NOT overwork both paintings and pencils, the more a work is polished the more it looses energy...

That's true..I like my sketches more than stuff I sweat over .. I think when I drew for fun as a kid, I did everything to enjoy it , I'm wanting to regain that energy .. I do more one off things now and like that unlike comics, I don't have to abide by any continuity ..

Yeah, i try to get that energy back, but its not easy with regular jobs where a huge amount of Β β€œdetail” is constantly required and what I see as an improvement might be mistaken as β€œunfinished”...It’s a difficult balance to keep.Β

I think that most want more, and that's the problem..The value of simple is overlooked, it's like movies, more & more on screen , faster edits to make up for a lack of content. My favorite movie is The treasure of the Sierra madre, Just three guys looking for gold,no crazy effects or flash editing, it's straight ahead with no fat on the bone ..

Love your work; it's so like Frazetta's pencil works, the powerful atmosphere and the concepts are quick and to the point. Nice work my friend

Robert Rodriguez is doing it, so I guess it'll be live action with lots of green screen , but if they do it right, might be interesting.

I've seen a lot of Frazetta copiers. But they all seem to miss the mark. In my opinion (do I dare say it?) your work on very much on par with Frazetta's. I hated to see him pass like he did. But I love his work, and I am going to enjoy yours in his passing. I can't say enough great things about your work. Please keep doing what you are doing. It is wonderful!

Hey David, I'm really flattered by your comments. I have so much respect for Frazetta's work that, although he's still my main influence and inspiration, I wasnt sure I should tackle his characters directly , but after meeting his daughter Holly, she actually encouraged me so I got it out of my system. I might not do that many Death Dealers in the future, maybe a couple more I have in the works already, but I'll keep " doing what I'm doing" for sure ..thanks again!

I HATED it when Frazetta would copy me.

Rexxar was based off of Darkwolf. I just wow'ed him up with 2 axes, a shoulder pad and instead of Teegra, he got a Misha.

With today's technology and what computers can do, we need to make an R rated animated sword and sorcery flick that looks like a moving Frazetta painting. And not like that ugly-assed rotoscoped Fire and Ice flick Ralph Bakshi did. When I win the Mega Millions lottery and rule the world, that's just what we'll do, and you'll be the first artist I hire to work on the concept art for the project. Now I gotta just win the lottery.

AlexHorley In reply to Ernimator [2014-09-24 08:12:54 +0000 UTC]

That's what Robert Rodriguez is doing with the remake of Fire and Ice....live action with Frazetta-like environments on green screen. Sin City looked good, so I hope he'll do justice to this too. Although when I was a kid, that "ugly rotoscoped " thing was as close to a moving Frazetta painting as you could get...still dig it in all its roughness.

My very first animation back in 1985 was going to be a moving Frazetta illustration. This is colored pencil on black paper. Didn't get past the rough pencil test stage. Wish I had finished it.
