Thanks, man! This is a small painted sketch I did looong ago. The board is about 8x10", the art area is even smaller. I did one of my first attempts with photoshop ( using the mouse!) and "smoothed" some areas. Then recently I played with it a little more, borrowed that castle from another painting of mine and switched all to black and white. Was just an "experiment", but I kind of liked the way it turned out.

I'm really digging the face of Frankenstein. And the hair! Brings to mind the question of whether he would ever dare head-bangingΒ Β

I've seen covers for Marvel's Dracula series from the 70s and I prefer the ToD Dracula design over the armored Dracula Marvel uses these days. It's far more iconic

Yeah, I agree. I think it would be much cooler visually to keep the iconic character and pitch it to contemporary ones, while if he looks like a super hero/video game himself kind of looses its " punch"...

it's a shame werewolves don't have an iconic literary masterpiece from the 1800s

True. Although, to me, R.E. Howard's " Wolfshead" story kind of fills that void. Although was intended for a "pulp" readers audience, it has some " classic" moments...

A shame more people are into that vampire tragic romance crap than the bestial ferocity of werewolves. The fact that vampire physiology in fiction and myth tends to be less limited than werewolf physiology may also contribute to vamps earning greater popularity.

I think that at the roots they deal pretty much with the same thing: the "savage side". Dracula, Frankenstein ( in part), werewolves, Jekyll & Hyde to some of today's " monsters" like the Hulk, they all deal with our dark side being unleashed, freed from moral constraints of society. No wonder, most of these tales were born in " Victorian" surroundings...vampires, over time, got their popularity because of the romantic implications, which made them appealing to a wider audience. Werewolves would kick their ass anytime!
