hmmm now i'm wondering if there are more aliens that were forced into serving as soldiers. who knows maybe the faceless only attack because they are confused and have this sort of attack first thing in sight thing where they just go berserk and the forces of advent make it think that Xcom is the evil force or something.could be a nice plot point to have, with some aliens turning on the advent soldiers because they werent treated well or because they just dont like them in general

I think thats is pretty much the thing. The Etherials started with Sectoids and cloned them, then Mutons and Vipers and so on.
And I belive that something is never 100% evil or 100% good. It's just impossible.

actually Xav, you can turn them against themselves (more or less) with the Mind Control. and I have a theory that maybe the aliens that are easier to control (no special species, just some random during the fight) are "maybe" aliens that were forced to fight.. but like I said, just a Theory =/
Btw, I love to look at Vipers when they're panicked, they look so cute ^w^ (they don't really look panicked actually, which is why I say it's cute, not because I'm a psychopath XD)
and a Gatekeeper is still kinda weak compared to a nice Berserker
