It really means a lot for me!

And of course huge THANKS to all of you guys who commented and faved! I will read all your comments and try to comment back.. Though don't get upset if I'll reply with just "thanks" to some of you.. There are so many comments and I have so small amount of time to read them that It's pretty impossible for me to write long replies to every one of you.

Instead of writing down my thoughts about this piece I would like to ask you what do you see in it?
What deep message do you think it contains?
Or is it just another pointless picture?

Please share your opinion in comments.

I believe this is telling of getting an idea, but our minds are so caught up, twisted around themselves if you will, to pause to seriously write it out, just as that pencil cannot write out its ideas. And eventually, more and more of the pencil (idea) is shaved off by the sharpener (time, having other things be on our minds) that we lose that idea.

This is a brilliant piece. The pencil represents our inner thoughts or our imagination in regards to what we feel like drawing or writing on paper. The sharpener is essentially how we think or the process in which our thoughts change or get better. So much in one picture! GREAT.

it looks to me that pencil has a large body and a short life. so much potential wasted in the meanderings of the pencil. If only it were straitened out it would be full of potential. ....it is much like some people.

it also looks like one of those efficient lightbulbs

very cool

It's just like how you can get an idea, but it can be hard to complete. A twisted pencil doesn't help but someday, you'll straighten it out and create something amazing.

Heh, actually my first thought was Gosh I hate those friggin' mercury bulbs....

Ah, sorry.

But yes.... looking at it.... well.... The image makes me think of the concept of idea. And sometimes, as an artist, you just don't have any ideas. Sometimes you won't get an idea until you already have the pencil in your hand and are letting it run around on the paper.

LOVE THIS!!!! this is the image to describe that exact moment when you see a vision in your mind of the art you're about to create and how. It's like a light-bulb turns on, in an instant you know exactly what you're going to create. This image reminds the insecure me that I am often inspired and to feel lucky to have the ability to see the world from an artist's perspective and that ideas will continue to come to me, and if I have nothing else I will always be someone with vision, someone who sees beauty at every turn.
Or is it just that I'm a sap?

Honestly, the first thing I though of was how difficult it would be to actually sharpen that thing. Maybe it is like idea block or something since the pencil (like the idea) will never work with the sharpener (possibly like the person). xD I like the concept. Or it could be like the eraser gets in the way of the idea. Like it's teaching that people shouldn't be so self conscious of works and stop erasing "mistakes" and just go with the flow, if that makes sense. O-o

I try to stay away from the deep and meaningful messages in images, I like to see all images as just that, not really pointless. I really like this image, I immediately started imagining what it would be like to sharpen this pencil.

Critiquing the image though, I would say your edges could use some beveling, there are a couple places where they're edges are apparent, the 'bends' look like they have a bit of faceting in places, and I would probably make the contrast between the pencil's wood and paint a little heavier.

Awesome image

Why must it be a bulb? 15 years ago, it would just be a helix. Then it would exemplify the flexibility of ideas and of thought as they are becoming realized.
Now, it is industrial popular culture once again infusing art and imagination with a terrible sense of conformity and blandness.
Marvelous work.

Awesome concept! To me this image would represent the sharpening of the pencil as being the same as a metaphorical bulb lighting up with an idea. The artsy equivalent to a generally scientific-related symbol.
Definitely deserving of a DD!

it's a lightbulb, and the idea in the lightbulb comes from the very tip of your pencil, as you push on the paper and the words flow out of you, like an endless river of imagination.

that actually sounded kinda poetic. wow.

Art is the 'Idea' itself, or mayhaps, the process of creating, or writing, or that writing is a source of intelligence, and the 'light' of discovery. Very thought provoking, no?
