Edit: Did some toutching-up on the terrain... a little more detail such as forests along the eastern coastline... golden grasslands in the central north... snow in the northwestern lands... etc.
This is a newer version of Castelia, I'm currently working on it still... just the terrain for now, but political map and to come.
Note: Download it to see a larger size. Full size is not availiable yet, it's over 3000 pixels wide. ^_^

Thanks! Well... it's a complicated process... I'll try to sum it up... I did it using a program called "The GIMP".
I start out by drawing a coastline with the tablet. Second step is drawing an "elevation terrain map" (black for the lower regions and white for the higher regions). I use the elevation map in a filter called "bump map" to create the shadows that make the map look nice. Then I fill in the land and sea with the colors I think look right. Finally, I aply the bump map filter to the colors and there you have it. ^_^
