This year's spring, the weather was unusually chill, so as soon as there were the first few warm and sunny days in a row, Féodor and Caesar decided to spend their free afternoon simply relaxing outside. Caesar grazed on the lush grass, while Féodor lied down with a book to read. After Caesar grazed for about an hour, he started to feel full, and decided to join his friend in sunbathing. For the whole time, they both enjoyed each other's silent company.

As the stallion settled down next to his friend, he at first enjoyed the view: the horizon of the forested hills, rolling miles and miles into the distance. However, even though this was a nice sight to behold, he got bored after a while and turned to his companion.

“What is it, that book you're reading? Is it good?”

“It’s quite good,” the monk nodded slightly, “it’s a book on some new approaches to perspective and colours in art.”

“Uh,” exclaimed Caesar. “That… probably wouldn’t be an interesting read for me, right?”

“Who knows, but probably not.” Féodor said with a smile on his face. “I may be the only one in this monastery to read this, honestly.” He put the book aside and closed his eyes. After a moment of silence, he continued.

“I… should be more grateful to my brother for transcribing it - as in, copying it - for me.” He paused, then continued: “It must have seemed like a pile of gibberish to him.”

“Your brother? Which one?” Asked Caesar.

“Yashka. Last year, he was staying at another monastery to carry out some duties for abbot Zhen. And him being a bookworm, he dug up this book in their library. As the local monks couldn't part with it, he asked them for permission to transcribe it himself. They allowed that, and so he did.”

“Is it… a lot of work to copy a book?” the stallion inquired further.

“It depends,” said Féodor, “it depends on the book’s content. And the familiarity of the content to the one copying it, too. That’s why I believe it wasn’t easy for him.”

“Your brother doesn’t like art?”

“It is not like he doesn't like art - he is excited about it in general - but he himself is not an artist and knows nothing about the theory behind it. And this book, huh, it is an advanced one, really.”

"Hmm," the stallion slightly hummed, and then, he spoke no more.
