Nah, it's not explained anywhere in the current comic because I changed it sometime last year. I only altered the comic's synopsis to match it. The prologue will explain it very clearly, but essentially the Elders and the Congregation felt the Royal bloodline was becoming tainted because the recent generations were not marrying, were not having children, or were marrying commoners or inter-racially. This is considered "bad" because it is not traditional and thus it is threatening to the order. So the arranged marriages were put into place as a method of trying to keep things the same, even if by force. They accomplish this by using the religion as a guilt trip to manipulate the parents into putting their children into it. (It should also be noted the method the couples were paired is different. It was a thorough process vs "grocery shopping" like the old prologue inferred.)

Aha the "grocery shopping" method actually turned a couple people off on my comic entirely! I can understand why since it IS a little weird having an adult size up a child to be their future spouse. Like it could be interpreted very easily as pedophillic. So it was best to fix that straight away! Unfortunately it's not really shown in the new prologue, it's only mentioned, but I'm planning to explain the process throughout the comic itself via dialogue or flashbacks.
But yes! I actually have the new prologue (6 pages) completely sketched as of... TODAY! I'll be inking them alongside my main buffer and hope to have them completed sometimes by the end of January of next year. That way I can start the year off fresh! I will also, of course, be storing the current/old prologue so nobody can read it and get confused.

Really? I mean, yeah, I guess you could look at it that way, but it's an alien race and their culture is different. It's not much more weird than parents deciding their child will eventually marry this other child and their kids are only 2 years old at the time it was decided. I don't know perhaps I just look at it differently. It would, I guess, be one thing if it was humans doing it, but it's not so the laws of what we preseve as morally correct don't necessarily apply anymore. At least from my point of veiw.

AHAHAHA I KNEW YOU WOULD LOVE IT. I never planned on her being gay, but then it occurred to me one day like "dayum gurl you sneaky" and it just SPOKE TO ME and felt right.
The only question now is will she find someone or is she okay being a hot single lady? WE WILL SEE I SUPPOSE.

Yes, actually, homosexuality is accepted! It's not really questioned much at all (there are only some cases where, for instance, gay men might be an issue if reproducing became a priority since the female ratio is significantly higher than males. So they would need every male they could. But that's not as relevant in present day). Other orientations can be a bit more iffy depending. Asexuality, for example, would be frowned upon in the case of The Selection event since reproducing is a core responsibility. Polyamory, on the other hand, would be considered weird but not a huge issue.

More-so in states of emergency. Like if the birthrate is low its not a big deal, but if, say, a mass disease killed a significant population then yeah, it would be a "duty" sort of thing for them to reproduce. Ambivians, as a species, could be mistaken for asexual as a whole. They aren't a sexually driven species. So any sexualities expressed are fair.
The sad part, though, is they are open to sexualities on Ambivia but... not so much race. So there's not homophobia but racism is quite prevalent...

Racism is heavy in uh... speciesism...? They don't generally favor any race that isn't Ambivian. It doesn't help that Ambivians are one of the higher ranked species in terms of planetary wealth, resources, and intelligence. So they have what they believe is factual evidence in why they are better. Lanians are the only competitors of this (which went into their reasoning for not wanting them to immigrant) but even they are outranked since they are a fairly recent addition who haven't gotten their footing yet.
They are also racist towards their own kind, though. They don't favor Ambivians from other continents or countries because they are physically a bit different as well as culturally. So it's a mixture of everything.
