Description
During my Hawaii trip, I was inspired by one of the native bird species called the Hawaiian Stilt. They made me think of a species for my Pangea Ultima project that would fill a similar ecological role and thus the Stilt Mantis was born. This long legged insects wades through shallow water, their widened feet prevent them from sinking into the mud and their sharp gaze focused downward for signs of prey. If it spies evidence of burrowing, it will use its hooked forelimbs to probe the mud and scoop up their prey to their hungry maws. As it mainly focuses on smaller prey, the hooks on their forelimbs are greatly reduced though it will occasionally snatch swimming animals if they're manageable.Though my next installment of my Pangea Ultima project is still intended to focus on mountain rages, it was nice to brainstorm an organism for a future wetland environment.
As always, comments and critiques are welcome.
