Description
There is an inspiring presence among us that drove me to excel and be the artist I am today, although I'm still learning, much of my new ability in both digital and traditional art is due to the awe-inspiring ability of Tracy J Butler, creator of Lackadaisy and a very good friend of mine. This picture was something for Lackadaisy as I had not done anything of the subject for quite a while, I ended up drawing an elderly-version of Mordecai Heller, the trigger-man of the Marigold gang.
This Jewish hitman was drafted into the army and found himself in the landing of D-Day, his assassin's pistols traded for an M1 Thompson and promoted to the rank of sergeant. After a lengthy career of fighting the Krauts, Mordecai lost his taste for murder and found himself leading a very boring life after the Allied victory.
He frequented bars and occasionally indulged in a hit or two just to relive the old days, but he ended up playing chess, finding solace in the strategy of the game. Thirty years ago from being a top-class hitman, this near-emotionless Jew is rarely known and his fearsome reputation almost extinguished.
Sortof like a "Where are they now?" thing
tried to recreated him as an elder, removing the boyish-good looks and turning him from a kitten-looking thing into an elderly lion...
Here's for you Tracy! could this qualify for the guest art page?

This is very... charming, in it's own way. I mean, not huggles and grins charming... but ummm.... whatever. Charming. His expression and body language are very interesting. You don't mention a wife or kids in his little backstory, but the look on his face just says "Yar, turn that damn rock and roll down this instant or I'll go over there and..." Also, the folds in his clothing look very natural to me.
My only suggestions would be to add a bit of shading around the folds, fix the perspective on that table, and add a little detail on his highball glass and bottle.
Overall, really nice work!

hehe, thanks, he was done on a bit of old cardboard, I didn't bother shading his shirt as the dark canvassy-material added a nice atmosphere already. Personally, i didn't know if Tracy had any plans for his future, so I kept apart any additional characters (I.E his wife or children)

she also happens to be my friend, I'm pretty sure people like you'd be drooling at her feet, I just enjoy talking to her; she's not only an intelligent and gifted artist, but her sense of humor and great conversation skills keep our notes flying back and forth XD

Looking back at some of the drawings you did just a few months ago compared to what you're doing now, it's clear you've improved by leaps and bounds. As far as I'm concerned, you're to be commended for being so open to criticism (not a lot of people are) and for making such a concerted effort to advance yourself artistically. It really has paid off.
That being said, I'm honored you think of me as an inspiring presence.
You did great job making Mordecai look older and less kitten-ish. In fact, he appears to have donned a bit of the same gruff apathy that Viktor carries around. Nicely done.

coming from you of course that shall not go lightly nor astray I did notice that in the end he has a similar appearance to victor, gives you somewhat of an idea what ol' vicky might've looked like during his younger years. the thing is, he was done without reference or even reviewing the how to draw page, i just had an idea in my herad and wanted to show it off XD
Oh, before I forget, thanks for adding it to your favorites means the many people who come through your site will see it as well

thanks sonic I always try to go for a cheesy action or heroic pose, I thought I'd try for a relaxed atmosphere as my new comic demands things like this, the tribute was the original idea though I got much satisfaction out of drawing this old fellow...
