Woah, that's quite the mould. Like, it can do that? Damn.
btw, what program did you use to make the GIF?

Right? Weird.

I used Photoshop! Clip Studio Paint is my main program and it also has an animation feature but I haven't totally figured it out yet.

Yyyyyes! x'D Beautiful slime mold! This is really neat, I love the little animation, and I'd never realized the nifty path-finding one was called the many-headed slime! Sorta sounds like a Yu-Gi-Oh monster!

Very remarkable critters. With intriguingly complex behavior.

Definitely! I know it's not "thinking" in the way that we think, and yet...so complex.

Norski In reply to Alithographica [2017-09-05 22:56:58 +0000 UTC]

Complex, indeed.

I don't remember if you've mentioned this, but it looks like octopi and similar critters may be rewriting their RNA to "learn" new and complex behaviors. ( news.uchicago.edu/article/2017… )

This may help explain why scientists have been having such a hard time determining what sort of intelligent octopi have. They're *really* different. I've talked about neural circuitry and animal behavior a few times. ( brendans-island.com/catholic-c… )

Taking what we've been learning in another direction, I've speculated on how (serious) SETI might be handled, once we get used to the idea that the neural architecture of primates is not the only possible model for intelligence. ( brendans-island.com/catholic-c… )

I don't, by the way, "believe in" space aliens: either that we must have neighbors, or that we must not. At the moment, we don't know. And that's another topic. One I'll be discussing in Friday's post. The preceding was shameless self-promotion.

Ooooo, I have that RNA article already (you might've been the one to pass it to me?) but not those other ones. Fascinating, thank you! (She says, weeks later - oops.)

Good news. I think I said something about RNA and octopi - maybe here. Then again, maybe not. Whatever the case, and whenever: my pleasure!
