I'm going to try and not make a habit of spending the time on a painting only to redo it days later.
I wasn't happy with the first one even before I finished, so I don't know why I continued. This new version took a lot longer than I thought it would. The plants were very tedious and really took a toll on my wrist, but I couldn't think of a better process. I changed the Bumble Bee to my favorite kind called an Orange-Banded Bee, which I've had the pleasure of seeing a lot of this year. This is closer to my original vision, which is of a photo I wished I could have gotten. I basically put a whole bunch of images together only taking the elements I liked. It's not as realistic as I wanted, but I can say with confidence that this is the best I can do this time. XD It ended up a lot busier than it probably should have though.

VISION: The pieces of the artwork come together nicely. The image is nicely balanced across the page without one section being too heavily weighted over another, yet with focal points to draw the eye in. The orange overtone nicely brings everything together into a united picture.
ORIGINALITY: This pieces drives to be photographic in nature and accomplishes this well, but there is still a balanced hint of fantasy that drives the motion behind it. The bee almost seems to be drawing the pollen out of the flower without having to touch it, yet the motion seems almost natural in design, tying the focal points together as well.
TECHNIQUE: The orange overtone does well to unite the image, but the focal points of bee and flowers almost blend into the background too heavily. It looks better from afar, but get too close and the lines begin to blur. Some stronger defining edges and/or highlights would have helped this. As it is, it almost seems consumed by unintentional fire.
IMPACT: Overall, a nicely presented piece with a vast improvement to the original. The only thing I could suggest slight improvement on is to define the edges of the flowers and bee a little more strongly to help bring the focal points into better focus. The orange overtone is really nice at bringing the components together into a unified image, but some of the lines blur a little too heavily to make for fully comfortable viewing up close.
